Just rattle canned a project guitar

When I've used the 2k Clear, I ended up wet sanding then polishing to get to a mirror gloss. I'd start with 600 or 800 ish grit and move to at least 2000 grit (all wet sanding; soak the paper a bit first too), then polish. Be careful not to burn through the clear on any edges etc.

It’s a bike stand I got off Amazon for like 30 bucks 😂

I got some meguiars cut and polish but it’s still not high high gloss. It actually looks cool as is but is there any products or methods you guys like to really make it shine?
The guitar looks great! Nice Job! The crackle pattern is pretty killer!

Did you shoot it with Spraymax 2K gloss clearcoat?

This was not what I was expecting at all, based on the title! I was expecting some backyard shed workshop nightmare but that looks killer! Nice job!

Looks great! I’m waiting for the weather to clear coat a body. It will be months. I would prob have all sorts of fog if I did it now.

And you have a much better setup for spraying. I hang mine from a string loop from the garage door opener. Fan at garage door to pull out fumes. I have a mask tho.
You just have to jump on your window of opportunity when the humidity hits 60% or lower. I sprayed my Spraymax 2K clear once my humidity hit 60% and it continued to drop down to about 50% that day and it turned out great!

The 2K is the way to go, all these new water based urethane clears do not spray as good.......I shot another product prior to the 2k because I already had it on hand and the 2k was enroute and it literally peeled off like a facial mask when I had to tape off the body when I painted the pickup cavities with conductive paint.

I hit the body with 600 again for an aged finish, wiped it down with surface paint prep cleaner let it evaporate then shot a mist coat then 2 coats the 2K clear then let it cure for a week before reassembling.

So far the the 2K has not peeled, it leveled great and looks great!

I use either Oxford or Stewmac nitro and the amount of work to go from just a quick polish to perfectly flat and glossy af is a shit ton of wet-sanding, polishing and buffing (and risking burning thru). I've done it only once on a full body (done a few headstocks) and it was an early job that was going to suck no matter how much massaging it got. My intent is make this one glossy but still TBD.

That first wetsanding step of getting it totally dull with no shiny spots is the hardest part for me. Takes for fucking ever and I hate tiring out my hands wetsanding...my hands are supposed to be babied/saved for playing guitar. I'm getting old and the song line "my hands felt like two balloons" is an every day occurence now.
