I had 2 Two Rock Onyx's and felt like I didn't need 2 of the same amp so decide to make a trade. I traded another forum member here for his 2005 Bogner XTC Classic and am really glad I did. This amp just kills. I have owned 5 or 6 101B's over the years and I also owned a few XTC Classics. Not sure why I sold them I guess GAS got the better of me. Well not sure if this one is just better than the others I owned or that it has been such a long time since owning one I forgot how good they sound but these amps have the perfect high gain tone for me. I also own a SLO and am thinking I might be putting the SLO up for sale if I feel the same way in a few weeks when the honeymoon ends. What I notice about the XTC that I like better than the SLO is that it has a fatter low mid sound. The SLO is alot brighter and doesn't seem to have the fattness of the XTC. The SLO might be a better choice if playing out with a band since it probably would cut better but since I play mostly alone at home I think the XTC might be a better amp for me. I'll give it a few weeks but if I feel the same way in a few weeks I'll probably be putting the SLO up for sale. I'd say the blue channel is much better than the SLO crunch channel. Also when boosted the Blue channel get's about the same amount of gain as the overdrive channel on the SLO at 5, which is where I play it. The Red channel just screams as well.

Congrats, one of my favorite amps ever!!

Did Bogner do the revision on the Classic, or is that just a 101B thing?

It's just a 101B thing, but they do offer a high gain modification for the Classic as well. They just didn't make it stock with the Classic.

Love my 101B!!!!! Does your SLO have the depth mod? My Avenger has the SLO trannies as well as depth control....and it sounds fat as hell!!!

The XTC is such a versatile amp! I love my 101B and am still looking for a Classic. I really like the low mid voicing of Bogner amps- smooth, thick and meaty. I had a SLO too and sold it recently to get a PT100. And while I loved the SLO's overdrive channel for leads, that piercing top end got fatiguing after extended periods of time. Something the Bogner never does.

And IME... the Bogner cuts through just fine in a band situation.

No my SLO doesn't have the depth mod but I am thinking about sending it in to have the depth mod installed. I should at least do that before deciding to sell.

That would definitely be a worthwhile investment - the depth mod is critical to getting the most out of the SLO IMO.

+1 Sold my SLO too and bought a Bogner Fish. The SLO had one of the best lead tones, but I found, like Bill, that the high end was just too piercing and the midrange wasn't fat enough for rhythm playing...or should I say 'wide enough'. I'm looking to get a PT100 as well when money allows...So basically I can cover a ton of ground with any 3 of my amps. Btw, not to rock the boat, but Bogner is releasing the 20th anniversary Ecstasy this year, that is based on the XTC Classic with more options and more dynamics (according to their website).

Congrats man! Post pics or you just traded for a Bugera.

I'm going to get to spend some time with a Classic today. Had two 101b's and dug 'em, but always curious about the classic. Congrats.

20 anniv. huh

The first production XTC was made in February of 92. I owned it. Maybe 20 years since the original Triple Giant pre?

I really need to try a Classic sometime, people always seem to gush over that amp. I have a newer 101B, and I really dig it. Tricked it out with some 6550, and she breathes fire. :inlove:
