Any of you Kemper users do any reamping with it yet? I can not figure out how to set it up correctly using Reaper and my Focusrite Scarlett 18i6 interface. To be fair, I've never reamped before so that's one problem. I can't seem to find any tutorials for my particular setup. I have asked on the Kemper forum but haven't gotten a reply yet....can anyone here help?

I think a reamp box isn't needed with the Kemper for everything I've been reading...???

Ah, didn't know that. Well then, RTFM. ;)

1st thing I did was read the manual...nothing in there helped...especially since it's written for people that probably have done it before.

Ah, well the gist of it is that you record into an amp so that you have the sound and feel of a real amp but you also record a direct signal. You then send that direct signal back out a channel and into a reamp device that normalizes the dignal for amp input and either mic that amp or send a direct signal back into your software, recording the reamped track(s).

Ihave the dry signal recorded no problem...it's the other part I can't get.

If the Kemper can take the signal from the DAW directly without a reamp box you just need to figure out what connection types you have from the output of your interface to the input of the reamp connection on the Kemper.

Everything I've read says to use the spdif connections but I can't get them to communicate...I'm a plug and play/record guy. Always plug into track 1 and hit record. The routing is what always screws me

Assuming you have SPDIF out on your interface, you just need to make sure you're outputting the dry signal to SPDIF and the Kemper should receive the signal. Keep in mind, I know nothing of the Kemper.

Both units have spdif in/outs...and keep in mind I don't know how to set the routing on either

Never was able to get SPDIF to work correctly with Reaper. To use the 1/4" outputs on your interface, you need to get into Reapers Routing Matrix and route ALL your regular tracks to one output (Left or Right since you only have the monitor outs) and the DI tracks to the other output.

The Kemper DOES require instrument level signal when using the regular guitar input and I have found it re-amps best when you have a DI averaging -16db with peaks of -12db.

Simply arm the incoming track, SOLO the DI track (otherwise you will create a feedback loop) and hit play. Right after you hit play, hit record for your armed track and off you go.

In the future you really need an interface with more outputs than just 2 monitor outputs.

Hope that helps.

I don't have a DI to use so spdif is the way I need to figure this out...according to guys on the Kemper forum, it works beautifully...if only I could understand how to route things, what to turn on/off, etc...

You dont have DI tracks?? That what do you plan on re-amping then?

Oooops sorry...I thought you meant a DI box...I already have the dry tracks.

Yeah just play the DI tracks into the Kemper via the 1/4" output. You just basically have to make sure its only the DI tracks playing though, ya know?

Routing is key. You need to figure out how to route playback of a single track to SPDIF out.

I've tried Fluff's method and I can hear a new sound coming through one monitor...but I'm still getting feedback with any high gain stuff...Monitor 1 is routed to the dry track and monitor 2 out is what is running to the input of the kemper. In the matrix I have monitor 2 set on the reamp track but I'm still getting feedback.

This is with the 1/4...

For spdif, I don't know how to set the scarlett/reaper to have spdif as an out option...it's not listed...

You can send the dry signal into the Kemper via SPDIF IN from your audio device. I have played with this a few times and it worked great. What I am saying is you don't have to use the front instrument input to do this.

[edit] just tried this to make sure it works:
used this sample

Reamped via SPDIF OUT from interface to SPDIF IN on KEMPER. Enable SPDIF IN by long holding INPUT and clicking the left most soft button.

Seems like it works ok?

That's what I'm trying to do but not having any luck.....just feedback
