Both of these cats were standouts when they hit the scene but for some reason flew under most peoples radar. IMHO, two of the tastiest players of that era...

Still put on "Space Cricketts" from time to time. Definitely one of the latter crop of Varney "shredders" who was different and unique.

I love ya Pat but if that bitch Coverdale came to you back in 89 with $1,000,000 so the story goes you would be piercing your nipples while styling falcon feather undergarments all day long

Speaking of unibrow, nobody ever discusses Vitto's Radar Love solo with the fine Italian eye candy with booming child bearing hips showing some love NYC burrow style...........

No Doubt...definitive versions of a few of their greats on there. Safe/Sad to say their whole career went under the radar of most.

I was on a firkins kick when that LP came out--groovy player

blues wasn't as cool to me because his songs aren't as memorable. drum machine city just like most shrapnel of the day

I bought Firkins' Catus Cruz cd because of the badass cover of the Sanford and Son theme.

Great cover but nowhere close to being "under the radar"...rock radio and MTV played this constantly back in the day.

and the solos in stryper's all for one

live version:

the first band i saw when i moved to cali in 84--LOUD and rocking.

out of all my son's garage band friends in his high school years, one guitar player stood apart from the rest. he could shred---and when i asked him about where he picked up such chops, he said he was taking lessons from oz fox.

I know a lot of people out there like Steve Howe. But I rarely hear anyone mention the Drama album. The opening track Machine Messiah has some great playing in it. And if you know Yes, then you know that there's often a gray area between the song and the solos. The note at 5:10 is still one of the best single notes I've heard.

Meh, I guess its a matter of preference. Saraceno had crazy amounts of swing and attitude and a very signature sound. His Tone was like refined EVH. I cant speak about the Drum machines but that was the only thing that he shared with Shrapnel. He actually stood pretty far apart from the shrapnel crew..

With all of the love for Dave Meniketti in this thread (I've always loved the guy's stuff too), WTH ever happened to him/them? I've wondered that for years. Do they still play out? Is he still smokin?

Nice! Will have to keep an eye out for them...

 Did anyone list to that Rage tune I posted on the first page? That is a great solo that Rig-Talk people should be into.

Hats off to the Uli Roth mentions. You'd never know he even existed if places like this didn't exist...

Testament- return to serenity.

I love that solo and i never see anybody talk about it.

That is a pretty interesting solo, Haven't listened to any Testament in a while. Time to break out my favorite one: Practice What You Preach. You can't go wrong with pretty much any Alex Skolnick solo.
Right on guys. Skolnick's the man. Murphy did a great job on the Low CD and captured the same style/magic imo

Solo @ 3:10 (unique tone on the fast picked runs near the end)

here's one that used to make me put the guitar down--i didn't even know where to begin when this came on-so fast and precise, but with chest thumping arrogance and authority!

i loved when he ventured out of the autopilot harmonic minor/phrygian runs, and tossed in some bluesy phrase or major scale, or played over changes instead of taurus pedal/drone Em key tones.

I still remember the first time I heard this back in the 80's. The fill he plays at the 1:02 mark with the pinch harmonic after it...love it. One thing about Yngwie that doesn't get mentioned enough is that the dude has amazing vibrato. It's really wide and aggressive, very cool. That whole album is great but my favorite solo on it is the 2nd solo on "Little Savage". I can't think of a more relentlessly aggressive guitar solo than this one:

"Little Savage"
