Never really into them, they are playing the Key Club in Hollywood tonight, I'm supposed to go but I think it's a Blockbuster night for me. Long week, I'm fried.

Hey Jeff, is the mic eliminator similar to the one that goes in Randall cabs?

Been wanting to try one of those for years...

Ya we just modified one, I believe we made it one mic and only mono out. Took it out of his Randall cabinet and made it external in his rack.
How's the pre amp treating you?

You dismiss a whole band and catalogue of music because of one lyrical line from one song?

It was my first impression. It was the entire song as well. I find it really funny that every time XM plays a King’s X song, I make the effort to listen and I am always disappointed  Sorry, it is just my .02. I think Ty is a great player when hearing him solo, but I cringe at some of his chord progressions with King's X.

To each his own. He doesnt do the typical heavy metal power chord progressions that is in most heavy music and they do the harmonies.... so some dig it and some dont. I like that about them, they are very different and not the normal so ol same ol.

V30's with a custom mic eliminater. He runs direct to the board no micing.

Just how "custom" is it and how can I get one?

Since I can't get Randall to sell them to me. We are going to redesign one for our own that will be external instead of being in the cab.

Thanks, Jeff. That sounds great.

Great band, I thought they were playing the Galaxy Theater tonight. I wanted to go, but I have some things I have to take care of early tomorrow. :aww:

I bought Gretchen in '89 or so after reading an ad in a guitar mag about how they were supposed to be the next big thing. I hated it! At the time I was way too into hair metal (I was 12, didn't know any better I guess  ). Fastforward to about '96, and my roommate pops Dogman into the stereo. It was the greatest thing I'd ever heard! They've been my favorite band ever since.

+1

First time I saw Prince he was opening for the Stones wearing lingerie. Got booed off the stage. I still bought practically everything that 'ho ever recorded.

I'm way late to the King's X party. I have 3 or 4 of their CD's. Haven't fallen over yet but I do keep coming back to it. That's what usually happens when I'm about to really dig a band.

Dogman is really good but IMHO I like their first 4 CDs the most when they had Sam Taylor producing. If you want to listen to them more polished and having arrangements that are more progressive then I suggest one of the first 4 but then again you have the "Over My Head" song in there that you didnt like. If you want to check them out from that era you might try listening to their 4th CD that is self titled which is one of my favorites. It doesnt have "Over My Head" on it and its the one before Dogman.

After the first 4 you could try Dogman as already mentioned, Ear Candy, or Tapehead are all a pretty good discs IMHO. They sound less progressive on these discs with not as much harmonies and polish.

I am open to listening again, but on my terms, not the radios...

Tell me the BEST album to get. :) Dogman?

The self titled "Kings X" , "Dogman" are my favs. Some of it is an acquired taste.

I went on to youtube and searched "dogman". Came up with the song "Dogman" live on John Stewart, terrible song. Figured I would go back to the search since their "live" performance and song sucked ass... and hit the next song. "its love"...live. Just when I didnt think it could get any worse. Ugh, I am thinking WFT, I guess they suck live, or just have bad sound men. Still gave it one more shot... I saw a picture of some chicks... for the song "alone". I figured chicks could make anything better... nope. Lost another few minutes of my life. To me, they are a below average band, at best. Tone is weird, singing is at times goofy.

Even if you dont like my opinion, at least I tried again...3 more times. ;)

Well judging from your clips of music you seem to like to play it doesnt surprise me you dont like them.

I love King's X. And they are incredible live. Not many bands have that kind of chemistry anymore- they've played together for so long...

This is what is killing me. I actualyl listen to a lot of different stuff and I trust a lot of the opinions on this forum and it seems that 99% of the people like them. Maybe I have just heard over commercialized songs? I know Ty is a killer player, but it seems that all of the songs I listened to have no solos….?

I wouldnt sweat it. Everyone has different tastes and I've found with Kings X you either love them or hate them.

Got my first CD player around 1989...I think Out of the Silent Planet (might've been Gretch tho') was the only CD I had for a long time...LOL. Someone obviously hated it 'coz I picked it up for 5 quid used...

My CD collection after that consisted of Led Zep boxed set and the first 3 Kings X discs..for months I didn't buy anything else. :D

Here's a couple of more Dave....some cool solo's..the cooler stuff they did was not commercialized and really the LIVE impact they deliver is pretty intense, like Petethorn said, they've been jamming for a long time and you can certainly tell live..extremely tight band. the music is artistic/lyrical and not your typical bar chord rock..although they do have heavy moments. They're stuff is not that easy to play rythmically either...but like i said early they're an acquired taste. I actually don't dig some of there later albums.
