KLON(types) too much for a Marshall at volume?

There is problem in Bugera amp than Klon, it just don't take pedals as well as original Marshall Plexi/JCM/JMP amps. Klons (or any overdrive) always give a compression so there are gain and volume knobs to regulate it, right ? If it didn't work, it just not for You, no matter what internet say. I had KTR and it worked better like lead boost than rhythm.

Our ears are I guess all different, but my Klon is what I use at least 95% of the time when I boost my amps of my 10 overdrive pedals and 2 rack PQ's (have been through over 140 boosts over the years). I've AB'ed it with tons of Klones (KTR, RYRA, Mjolnir, Tumnus, others I can't remember the names of) and it was to me like comparing premium fresh squeezed OJ to the made in concentrate version. Same flavor/voicing/eq curve, not the same quality. Whenever I helped my friend with his re-ampings the Klon would consistently be the only boost that would make the cut for him. We AB'ed with his RYRA and he thought they sounded more or less the same (I didn't), but somehow in the re-amping process the differences actually became more pronounced (I don't know much about recording) and so he only used the Klon. I was quite happy with my KTR until I AB'ed with an original silver and then it sounded comparatively brittle/clinical and so I listed the KTR on reverb the next day haha. I paid $1550 for mine, but it has sent way more dollars worth of pedals packing I've had over the years than that. For me well worth it, wish got more in retrospect, but guessing most others will disagree or think I'm a cork sniffer or whatever lol, but I will say I definitely hear a bigger difference with the Klon to other pedals vs holy grail tubes vs generic, not great tubes made today, but all just my opinion

I think maybe that is where the greater difference lies. Maybe if I had a real klon, at volume and pushing it, the tone would not be as compressed or it might sit way better if what you guys describe is taking place with the way it gains up. I'll take your word for it. I suppose people wouldn't be dropping this kind of money on these if they didn't make the difference. In a way it could be due to scarcity that the price drives up but scarcity is also driven by people wanting an item because it delivers on something or is desirable. One interesting thing I learned about the pedal is that it isn't in the TS family .. it is more in the clipping distortion family. (from a JHS vid) That makes more sense to me why it seems to cut so well. (with the right amp)

Sounds pretty damn good to my ear. Nice crunchy dry gain that I like. I gotta say those hot rod 50's are impressive amps. Maybe not a slo but really good sounding.

It is a different flavor than TS's, although a good vintage TS might be my 2nd favorite boost pedal ever after a Klon, but not cheap either. There are less compressed pedals out there than the Klon if that's what you're looking for. I find mine works great with most amps I've had (more flexible than most pedals in that regard), especially with my '67 Tremolo Plexi, Naylor, '79 JMP2203, Hiwatt and Recto's but there are some amps I've had here and there that it doesn't sound good with for whatever reason. I keep the output (volume) knob around 1 O' Clock (past that it can sound bloated or too compressed imo. On most other pedals I usually have the volume maxed or close to it) and adjust the gain based on the volume and gain of the amp. I agree with the others about lowering the gain, but if you're running that amp you have really high with lots of power tube saturation it might be worth trying a pedal that's less compressed. The Klon imo can be a bit much sometimes in that scenario. I don't usually like using the Klon when I use my NMV amps when they're past like 2 O' Clock or so. The funny thing is Klons aren't even that rare. I could be wrong, but I think I read there were something like 6-8000 of them made (more than IIC+'s) and I used to always see lots of them for sale on reverb when I was in the market for one. There never seemed to be any shortage of them when I was looking, just hard to find one at a decent price lol
