The little devil on my left shoulder said the little devil on my right shoulder told him I needed a Knaggs guitar, specifically the Severn model. Now they're both acting like little spoiled-rotten kids and they are insisting I impulse buy or else no sleepy time. Bastards!

Researching different ones for sale, most are "unplayed", "played it for a few hours", "not a scratch or ding on it anywhere". I have not come across any guitar in fair to good condition, "relic'd" or, heavens, "refretted" or "player condition".

What gives? Wall-hangers? I've bought a few guitars I couldn't bond with lately. A 1972 Gibson SG Custom, an early Paul Reed Smith CE22 with the good, early dragon pick-ups, and a couple of newer Les Pauls. They all seemed wonderful when I played them in the store but a couple of weeks later I developed certain bad, painful at times habits, like trying to acclimate to a small imperfection like the strings being too close to the body, middle pick-up, or in the case of the LP's, not staying in tune.

I'm looking for a new #1. Something I cannot for the love of me stop playing. When I was a trying to get "there", I would always bring my guitar with me everywhere I went, and I would fall asleep almost every night with it. Right now I have 4 main guitars. 1988 Jackson RR I had custom made for me when I was 25 years old, SS frets. It's beyond natural relic'd but still 100% killer, just way playyyyyyyed. I have a great 1981 LP, it's a heavy dog @10.5 pounds but works great on stage or recording. Then, I have 2 Steinberger GR4's. Incredible guitars to say the least. I've played the finish down to the wood one one of them. They are as solid as a piano and sustain like no other. The necks are to die for and although they are technically the same guitar, they sound different.

The Knaggs look killer and there are couple near me sub $3,000.00 so I will need to be talked/helped out of buying one. Here's one -

I have several Knaggs, they are great guitars. Due to their new pricing, most seem to be purchased by older, upper income professionals, with little free time. For those buyers, the purchase is a hope of escapism they never get to enjoy, as their medical practice, three kids and McMansion eat up every second of the day.

In case you didn't know. Consistently wiping your knaggs down using baby oil and tan pants will keep it in pristine condition.

Love these Suhr pedals. Running into the Suhr SL67 or PRS HDRX 50.

i wouldn't pay those prices.
its going to be a very limited market if you decide to unload it one day

I’d either buy used or trade northerner guitars for one- they give great trade value and especially on knaggs

I’ve owned 3 Knaggs in the past and have tried tons others at stores of all tiers and models. In general they’re very nice guitars in most ways, but sound wise you can do better if that’s the goal like it is for me

I have a Knaggs Stevens and it’s absolutely amazing. I don’t like the raygun on the headstock, but the guitar plays and sounds as good as any singlecut I’ve played. The steckel is also epic and it doesn’t have the raygun which is an added bonus. Both these have a Les Paul style bridge rather than the Knaggs bridge like on the Kenai. I don’t like the Knaggs bridge, Knaggs makes some epic guitars. I got my Stevens at an insanely low price. It blows away any of the new Gibsons I’ve played. I think les Paul looks cooler than this, but this sounds and plays better.

I’ve got a couple Knaggs. Extremely well made and sound excellent

Thanks everyone. I saw a thread from The Ghey Page and from that and what you guys said here, I seem to think I will get one and wear it out this season. The biggest complaints were the vibrato and pick-up. Nothing about having to wear tan pants. The pick-up is not a problem as I have many spare pick-ups I like and I can live with any vibrato with the type of music I play. As Jimi put it, "Only cowboys stay in tune" anyways.

I own 4 Knaggs Eric Steckel models at the moment, and I play them as they're on par with any top tier Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul, with better hardware and pickups IMO. The Severn is a different build that I generally favor - bolt on necks and 25.5" scale work best for me if I'm not playing a singlecut, so the set neck of the Severn changes the attack to my ears and it's got a softer punch than a regular bolt-on guitar. Their trem is also a bit different so that also probably has some impact on the way it sounds. Knaggs guitars are certainly pricey but compared to other offerings/builders they're less than a Custom LP, B3, Huber. Used you'll definitely save some dough - but if you're buying a Severn try to play it before you buy or have the shop play test it to see if it's resonant when unplugged - that's the key IMO.

Had the chance to play one and directly compare to a Gibson LP CS... the Knaggs sounded waaaay better, to me at least, at thoses price points it's a matter of what you truly seek

Own and owned multiple knaggs. Currently have this full custom Kenai with 3x P90s. Have a full custom Severn X7 or order in northern lights finish. Super excited .

Top quality guitars, incredible playability and sound.
