I know live, he's been using his RK100 Cornfords again. And, I know he used a Fender Vibrolux Reverb on "Empire."

Does anyone have details yet on what he used on the album tracks? I thought there would have been an in-depth Guitar Player article by now.

Where have you seen Richie using his Cornfords again? All I've seen him play is Marshall and Fender. He used a Bogner Goldfinger recently for some solo gigs.

I've listened to the new album a couple times. I'm not a fan of his tone in general. He's such a killer artist, but the attack from the thumb doesn't have the snap and punch of a pick. There's no harmonics jumping off that Tele, it's a dull tone.

I've seen him live, and of course he's just better than most guys so the tone was secondary, but listening to an album it's just ok.

Anyway, I was wondering when someone was going to post a thread about this album. I'm having trouble getting into it. :aww:

I agree about his tone recently. His "pick" tones were more dynamic and clear. I went thru the new tracks online and wasn't real moved by anything. Their first cd had more diversity.

I saw them live here in Phoenix (assuming BadRonald was there too) and was a killer show....Richie's tone was punchy and quite clear. Richie has evolved into a strange hippy type character these days. His wardrobe has been rather odd too. What's up with those M.C. Hammer pants? Haha

Richie is still a badass but I prefer the Richie from 2006-2010

I read an interview where he said his cornford is a majority of what you hear on the album.

Back to the rk100 for most of the album....and all of the tour

He used the Cornfords when I saw him at the NYC show at the Playstation theather.

Yes, correct he's been using his cornfords on this tour, and on parts of the album. He also tweeted a photo of a Vibrolux Reverb reissue with a caption about tracking "Empire."

Anyone know what tremolo pedal he's using on Spiral and The Lamb?

I had a hard time getting into the new record as well - at first, I much preferred the first album, but Hot Streak is a slow burn. After awhile, it really grew on me.

I DO wish he'd go back to using a pick. I just find it more exciting and clear to hear that pick attack.

Agreed ^^^.... Hot streak is growing on me...It's definitely not a first listen album. I really dig 'Captain Love'.

Agree 100%. Ok I get it, you are artsy, you have nothing to prove, playing with the thumb shows you are old school and soulful..... but the leads suck and don't punch you in the gut when the pick is not digging in. It is such an important part of the overall tone. Also, rythmically, everything sounds like dire straights. Dig into that pick bro!

what the fuck is he wearing ? besides that he is killer, love his playing, I don't miss the pick.

Im guessing with those amps his tone was very front and center and not buried AT ALL... especially in a 3 piece band. Really debating going to see them tonite in Milwaukee... 2hr drive there and good seats still available....  :)

No debate needed - you should go!

I know... only negative thing is going alone... and funds are tight. Pretty much either going or getting new pickups for the guitar. Gotta make up my mind soon tho...lol.. I know it would be killer and inspiring. Or I could just sit here with a bottle of red and watch Live in Japan :D

It was awesome! Very plexi-ish and not too much gain i.e. the guitar wasn't playing itself. He was working.
