Local shop has at least 3 old 80's Kramers in the used rack, none of them going for much. Hrmmmm.....
If it's a Striker, Aero, or Focus series they're not worth much. I would head over to VintageKramer.com to ID the model before you buy.

I'm a big Kramer fan. I just sold a Baretta here recently. I still have a Pacer II, Baretta II and a focus. I'll have to dig out some photos.

What really surprises me is you can pick up a Focus for a couple hundred with an OFR on it. They were MIJ as well. Those things are the best cheap guitar you can get!. A Pickup and electronics upgrade plus a decent set up and they play great.

True. Funny thing is these were shunned because they were MIJ when the "American" series were also MIJ by ESP. And from what I have seen the necks are the same except for the 'American' decal.

Sweet! I had one of the original 85 Baretta's like the one you just snagged.
I remember I traded in a Peavey Patriot? or something in the Peavey Guitar line for it.
It was slightly chipped ....but white in color and same neck as the re-issue. Paid $500 back in 87 I think.
It was the year before they changed the headstock to the 'jackson' style one with the Large "K" going down the smaller letters in Kramer. Actually traded that guitar for a San Dimas Charvel. Had to toss in $300 bucks....
Ahhhh.....those were the days. :D

I have been a Kramer fan for years. I bought a Sambora model for $500 from a guy and that was it, they are my top 2 guitars. I sold the maple necked one, it just never sounded as good as the rosewood/ebony ones do.

Here a chronicle of my original '82:

Here it is on stage in '85 or '86. I had already replaced the pickup, put a floyd in, put plugs where the tone and original jack on the face of the body were and routed the side of the guitar for a new jack. The jack on the face of the guitar was STUPID!:

The guitar was neglected from 1995 to about 2004 when I put on a new Warmoth neck (original was destroyed) and re-painted:

Finally, I decided to redo it with a beak neck I had a guy build and did this paint to it:

Then I sold it...

Oh... here's an '87 I owned and put another custom beak neck on and a bunch of other changes. Sold it too! :

I felt they were never really up to the quality level of the original Charvels that they imitated.

I was saving for a Kramer back in 1983 while delivering pizzas part-time in the brutal Chicago winter. The Kramer that I wanted had the beak headstock design that they ripped off from Suhr ;) The Kramer was $600 and I used to go down to Rock Warehouse in Schaumburg, Illinois every week and check them out before my guitar lesson. I was getting really close to that $600 mark when I went with some friends to Guitar Center in downtown Chicago. Guitar Center had those Charvel guitars that I had only read about in Van Halen and Randy Rhoads interviews but had never seen anywhere. So I picked one up and played it. I no longer wanted a Kramer. And the bad news is that I had to save another 4 months in order to afford the Charvel.

I would still love to have a strat head Kramer. Now those things were cool. Maybe even a beak head one if it didn't have extra knobs.

The funny thing about the beak headstock is they came up with that after they got in trouble from Fender for using the strat headstocks. They had a bunch of strat headstocks so they cut them into the beak shape. Nice tip if you want a beak style headstock and your handy with the band saw. ;) I was going to do that when I was building mine but found a nice birdseye maple beak from Musikcraft
