Seriously I just put some Kurt Mangan Nickle Wrapped on my guitar.. it was like taking a damn blanket off the thing! I can't believe how much of a difference it made!!! Plus they are super balanced really dig what they did for my custom axe

I had these a long time ago and haven't used them in a few years, and since my ears and rig have matured quite a bit strings REALLY make a substantial difference to my ears now... when your running through crappy equipment it's just not as sensitive to changes.

This pack is 2 years old and feels better than anything I've tried since I last put them on another guitar ages ago!

Hey man,

I've used GHS Boomers for most of the past few years, I've also tried Snake Oil brand strings, boomers have been my goto store brand, but the Mangans just blow them away... and the Snake oils are great strings but are kind of papery and not as snappy sounding, very vintage and old school, the Mangans just have more clarity, tonal balance, and they feel great and very consistent.

Those Mangan Nickel Wrapped are pretty nice. Very strong, clear, & tight sounding. I had them on my Les Paul and found them very bright when I first put them on, as did the rest of my band, but once they broke in I was good to go. I just tried their Pure Nickels and was really disappointed in those however. Dull and flubby sounding on the same axe. About to order some Snake Oils Original Nickels to compare. Did you ever try the Snake Oil Rock sets or just the Original Nickels?

Hey man I had the snake oil rock sets, and I've got to say I like the Mangan a lot better. That's not surprising about pure nickle strings they are quite a bit flubbier material wise than steel I would imagine... I think the nickle wrapped gives you the best of both worlds. If you weren't happy with the flubbyness of the Mangan nickles (which I haven't tried) I don't think you'll like the feel of the snake oils, they aren't bright, actually very warm but I can't help to describe them but papery in sound if that makes sense. Kind of like the tone you get from a Greenback vs a more modern speaker, does that make sense?

Before you order the Snake Oils, you better do some research on the GP. Many orders go unfilled for months with no response or explanation as others get filled within days. I thought the rockers were ok, but the regular snake oil strings were really good. Mangan's are really good too and that's what I'm using now as well. Been very happy with them so far. Even though Dallas had a blah response to the pure nickel, others have been very pleased. So I'd like to give those a shot as well sometime.

I'm not knocking the snake oil strings, they were great in some respects they just weren't my flavor, lasted FOREVER and never really lost any tone or wore down and I had them on there a LONG time, but they weren't under heavy playing conditions I do have to admit... even still though they held up amazingly well and didn't tarnish at all.

I haven't had the regular snake oil strings yet only the rockers so they may be better.

Here's the deal with order fulfillment I know a little about the owner of the company, convo via email I do have his phone # though as well, and he's friends with a few people I know. They only do runs so often so basically if you place an order and they ran out of strings, and they aren't making another batch for XXX months or whatever then you wont get any strings for a while, I did get mine eventually when I ordered directly from them. Your best bet is to order them from someone who is already stocking them.

I don't think you'll be unhappy with them, I wasn't, I just wasn't blown away.. esp since I recall they weren't cheap either!

Thanks buckeye

No I hear you Dallas!! The vintage (SOS) were really good though, but I'm assuming more of a vintage style as well up to hard rock (were excellent for warming up a strat). They may not be so good with your style either. Never know though!! I totally agree about the Mangan's though. Really good stuff and reasonable price!!

Havent tried the electrics yet. Messed with the acoustic sets a bunch and they just dont last. Im currently demoing his new "coated" acoustic set my local shop gave me to try out. So far so good. I normally use Daddario EXP's. The Mangans are cheaper. We'll see how it goes.

I like their nickel wounds too. I normally use D'Addario but I think Mangan makes a very good string.

Let me know how they are, I really liked their acoustic strings when I tried them... they were very clear and articulate for sure.

Don't you find the D'Addario wear out really fast??? Every time I've ever tried them they just corrode and wear out faster than hell! It's like that sealed bag makes them faster to die when exposed to normal air lol.

They are by far the best string for the money I have used. I like the pure nickel just fine, I usually prefer nickel and these don't disappoint. I dig the nickle wraps too and that is usually what I end up with. They don't always have the pure nickel where I get them unless I have him order a box.

I used to talk to Curt on the phone a lot when he was first getting started with his string line.
The first I had heard of him was in the liner notes of the Racer X "Superheroes" album...
Paul thanks him for the all the strings... Curt used to be with Ernie Ball, and was the one who got P.G. to come over to E.B. Super nice guy!

so you like these strings better than GHS boomers?

for years i used GHS - but they dont sound as good as ernie balls.

ernie balls have always given me tuning problems too. they seem to go dead quick, alot quicker than GHS.

i might give these a try next time i re-string my ibanez.

I can't recall on their life, but their feel is so silky smooth it's just GREAT very balanced tone... I'll update more on how much they wear under heavy playing, but I think that's all kind of personal because everyones body chemistry is different... I've got friends that rot strings in a day, yet my self my strings hardly ever tarnish, not sure why?

I'm starting to want to try these out. I had problems with my strings for years, a buddy of mine suggested GHS Boomers and I can honestly say I had the worst experience ever with them  Then I went through all of the other brands and could never be satisfied until I started using Elixirs. I use them on my acoustics too, it really brought them to life after using the EXPs, I was shocked when I put them on. I'm not even remotely interested in changing to another brand with how happy I am with these but I hate feeling like I might be missing out on something better   I might have to get some just to use in case I break a string, which might take a while because since I've made the switch I haven't had a single string break and It's probably been around 5 months. How do you think they stack up against each other?

I personally don't like Elixer's at all I've never even bought a pack but I've played them on quite a few guitars out there... Elixers always make stuff sound "plastic" to me, and I don't mean they sound BAD it's just they don't have the same amount of sparkle as normal strings. Elixers for sure will last longer, I guarantee it, I haven't tried the Mangan coated strings and I have no intention to, I just don't like the feel or sound of coated strings in general. Sorry I'm not more help dude :(

Hey Dallas, do you know how they compare to Dean Markleys? Ive been using them for electric for about 15 years. Also Ive heard that if you order around 10 or more sets from Curt, he'll put your name on custom packaging for each string set. Pretty cool.
