Another thing is you're going to set things up differently to compensate or get the best effect. Leaving everything the same for a test only shows the raw response.. Anyone will twist knobs for full effect..

Really tho, only guitar players care about this shit.. LOL
Some hog housewife doesn't give a fuck what gauge you play while she's drinking her white zinfandel out of the box listening to the hits.. LOL

 too true.

As I'm getting older though, if I could play eights and sound the same, I think I would try it. Even 9's for me personally, is walking a tightrope. Too many years of landscaping and painting, I wanna choke that fretboard by instinct. :(

Standard .008 sets are kinda light (8-38)
Sometimes I try the Yngwie Fender set. 46, 32, 22, 14, 11, 8
Like the other dude says, you can jack the action a bit with 8's.
I've been using the YJM Fender set for a few years now. Played 10s from teenage yrs to early 2Ks; then went 9s for about 15 years. After I stopped gigging in 2017, I started to get some random hand/wrist pain while playing. I grabbed a Fender YJM set and have had no pain since. It is a bit difficult at first to get used to them; easy to fret chords sharp..had to learn a lighter touch. But now I'm used to them and highly recommend the YJMs as they are still chunky down low so you don't lose any thump at the low E.

Late reply, but I have been using 8 to 40 guage strings for a while now on my superstrat and I really like them. They sound tight and focused on the bass. Also like the way they feel almost effortless to play. Just need to reduce right hand force when picking

I've got a few sets of Fender Yngwie 8-46 for my YJM Strats, but haven't gotten around to trying them yet....

I play 8s after playing 10s all my life . love it even in Eb !

I have the EB Extra Slinky set on my Fret-King - that guitar in particular always seemed to have oddly high string tension and those do help

I tried the YJM signature fender string set, 8-46 or close, and would be so nice if Elixir manufactured this set. My hands’ minerals rot the uncoated strings in no time.

Are they super bullets by chance? If so I’m in… I love those damn things and I don’t know why…,

10s for almost 45 years but started dabbling with 9s especially on the SA2200 which always felt stiff with 10s
made a huge difference. Have 9s on a few now but no 8s

That bihh that got gifted a Kramer by Pantera fans community uses 8s 😁

Yup, and they're thinner to-boot, making snapping due to oxidation more-likely sooner.
