In the battle of Charvel Strat vs Les Paul, the Les Paul won. I'll be taking 72987537, my original Dio-era Les Paul on the tour with my trusty, silver-sparkle, bastardised '78 Custom as a back-up. The ENGL rig sounds absolutely amazing with the LP; straight in, no effects. Here's a picture of all 3 guitars at the rehearsals. To be fair, I didn't really have much time to get comfortable with the Charvel and it's been many, many years since I played it. It has such a different feel to the Pauls and these days I'm just much more at home with the LPs. By the way, pictured is my first Charvel; the one Grover Jackson gave me during Holy Diver recordings. It later was painted with the Last in Line album cover, but I stripped it down to the wood as it sounded better that way.

My band opened the London show of the tour. Viv and the whole band were unbelievable, I loved the singer, those videos do not do him justice at all. I will post up some pics and videos from the show tomorrow.

It's tomorrow already, deliver :gethim:

  can't wait for your report bro!

What ENGLS is he playing? and he should ask Michael Starr to join the Last in Line tour and sing the Dio covers. He's awesome. The guy he has singing now really does not cut it.

Here are a few pics from the London show. Some decent ones from soundcheck, and I am afraid only crappy mobile pics from the gig.

Firstly I have to say this was my favourite show I've played, I am a massive fan of the first 3 Dio albums and Vivian is definitely a guitar hero of mine! As a band they were amazing, one of the tightest sounding groups I have ever heard. The singer was fantastic, it doesn't seem to come across on some of the videos on youtube recorded on phones, but what does? He was a great front man and did an brilliant job with the material while acknowledging the real stars of the show were the band.

Vivian tone was all Engl blackmore and les paul, this was the first time I have actually loved the sound of an Engl rig! He definitely had some chorus going on I would say on leads and maybe subtle on rhythm, but his tone was flat out killer!

Onto the pics.

And a few of my band opening the show!

Me and Viv!

Thx for the pics Tony! Checked Dendera's FB as well, looks like you guys had some serious badass fun !

The "Holy Diver" songs would not sound right played with a Floyd Rose tremolo guitar. When I first looked at the videos, I wondered if that was the same Les Paul from 1983. I was right!

Very cool!!

Freaking AWESOME! One of my favorite players just killing it! Thanks for posting that.

Very cool!! Big fan of early Dio..loved Vivian's playing and his tone was pretty unique I think for that first album..very middy but in a good way. As far as the singer goes..tough to judge based on a phone recording..kinda like hearing a youtube guitar tone. If they hired him that means he can hit all those notes with power..not an easy thing to do and I bet he sounds better live.

The Charvel I most want to see is the one in Guitar For The Practicing Musician, it's a 1 hum strat head with a rosewood 22 fret fingerboard, chrome Floyd and a Les Paul speed knob, The graphic is the Holy Diver album cover, not the pre pro one shown here that had the Last in Line cover (and 21 fret neck) on it. Where did THAT go ???

For me its the Charvel he's stripped in those pics.
The strat head with the Last in Line cover.
Gutted he stripped it.
