So its the bands fault that Layne liked to stick needles in his arm ?

Layne has nobody but himself to blame for his demise.

AIC is way past the Staley factor IMO.

Odd how the Godfathers of grunge Cobain & Staley couldn't survive their own success.
Dan, If Lane didn't stick needles in his arm he never could have sang like that which is what made the band famous in the first place. He never would have written the dark songs.

True, he was so wasted in that unplugged version of Nutshell. Still Jerry and the boys shouldn't have to "pay" anything.
Staley lived life on his terms and it killed him, end of story.

It would be challenging to assign any lasting value to the heron addiction of a band mate. There is definitely a cost. They had a friend and business partner wreck them. Sue his mother for that...

Definitely true as well. Allot of factors to consider but she has enough of a case to go to court and enough of a case for a lawyer to take it on.

So lame. Sad, sick and lame.

What if yer son wasn't a rockstar?? Would ya sue his former boss of the landscaping company? Would you sue his mountain biking buddies? Fkn money... At least "cash" is a 4 letter word.

That's a strong stance without having many facts. The fact of the matter is after death there is an estate that may be owed money as part of agreements that were previously documented. This is very common and people who had nothing to do with the generation of the income generally benefit from it.

Do not click any links/advertisements on the link Steve_K provided. I just picked up a nasty virus off that website.

Serious? Other than picking up my $300,0000,000 in Nigeria, hair growth products, and a penile implant - my computer is OK.

Haha! :D

Yes, seriously. I clicked on a link inadvertently and wham, got the "Internet Security" virus. Son of a bitch shut everything down. Excel, my data feeds from EQuotes, MS Outlook...all of it. It totally stomped my End Point Security program.

I couldn't run Super Anti Spyware, CC Cleaner, nuttin'. It was a bitch to remove. My IT guy was able to do so, but it was freaking tedious. I got that "special" kind of luck if you hadn't noticed.

Say what you want about them not needing staley but then they happened to seek out a singer/impersonator to be the new frontman. When I heard the album I thought it was the ghost of layne. I think that she or someone should get laynes portion of the aic name , old album sales, and merch. She should not be entitled to money from current tours and album sales as long as songs weren't written with layne in any way.

As long as they call themselves AIC, she may be entitled to current tours, album sales, etc.. Really depends on the original contracts and how a Judge interprets them.

Slightly off topic but I saw AIC last week and that new singer is one of the best live singers I have ever seen. Dude was on, and was playing guitar too.

I can definatly see that being the case. If I am a part owner in something,my share doesn't just dissolve if case of my death unless I asked for that in the will.

I can't believe they are still using that name, with those 3 poor girls just escaping in Ohio from being held captive. I'm thinking about suing for that.

Good ole American Greed!!! She is entitled to nothing!!!

You guys are all heartless......it takes ALOT to have your hand sticking out waiting for payday doing absolutely nothing!

I can see it now.....AIC broke up over Layne's mom. As bad as Yoko Ono.....wait....WORSE! :hys:
Just change the name to Al's ass in Chainz.....done! :D

There would need to be specific language written into the contracts about earnings in perpetuity, or after death, which is super rare, for McCallum to have any claim to any monies not earned directly by Layne.

Exactly. If that was not the case, every knocked up groupie would be hitting all the bands up for child support.

The guy dies, the associated personal gravy train chugs to a halt very soon.

I think they were great to pay her for 10 years.

Wonder what's her drug of choice? Layne and Jerry were tight - as were the rest of the band. Surely she doesn't think JC would have done anything in bad judgement toward Layne or his family. People die, the others move on.

Anyway...not long until Dinosaurs is released. Looking forward to it.

The ability to lay down a simple beat, then lead and lag it with a killer riff... It is a fucking gift of genius. Cantrell has it. And the riff is usually easy. Which makes it so remarkable. It is funny to hear slight praise of Cantrell as a player. Like he can't really play much lead.... Or some BS like that. He just plays exactly what fits and is a gear genius, getting great live tone.

I would much rather hear a few great AIC songs with monster guitar sound than some thin shred by your favorite fretboard gymnast.
