LED Light Bulbs

Longevity: I've had the same bulb in a stairwell that never shuts off....about 18 months now. Maybe a key; they last longer if you never shut them off.
Agreed.

In my experience, the fewer temperature changes the better.

Top-tier LEDs should in-theory last many tens of thousands of hours. Not one of the cheap / readily-available brands I've used for general household lighting has delivered. Similarly to you, I'm getting 2-3 years max from mine and they're all super-low-wattages (6 -> 12w) and therefore generate a minimal amount of heat.

One of the earliest incandescent bulbs constructed has lasted 124 years thus far, burning 24/7/365.

It apparently started out at about 60w and now emits about 4w worth of light.

From Wiki:
The bulb's longevity has been attributed to the high quality of its manufacture, it being seldomly turned off and its low wattage.

Progress can be a bitch.

I can see some situations that they may be helpful.
But when I go outside and the city has installed their new street light LEDs, where staring even slightly in their direction practically burns your eyes out... not so much.

If I had to choose, amber all the way

I like the crisp, white light. Visibility is better for me. I’ve seen some studies that say it throws off natural rhythms because humans adapted to “amber” shades when fire was the only source of light at night. Not sure how true it is, but it seems like a reasonable assertion…
