Who's tried / owned an Axcess and what did you think of it?

I've been searching for an axe that will give me Gibson scale and tone with a Floyd and there's really not a lot else out there... unless anyone has any other suggestions?

there damn sure ain't much around in the so called high quality guitars. i talked Tom Anderson into building me a Cobra with a floyd, but no idea if he was happy with it, or would ever do it again.

i about went for the Axcess, but didn't wanna pay new price for one. there's been a few guys on here that have had them, hopefully they'll holler.

for cheaper stuff. LTD has an Eclispe with a floyd, and a pointy explorer shape. Edwards Japan has a pretty nice looking not quite a LP shape with a floyd.

Gibson will be coming out with a goofy vampire Explorer with a floyd here pretty soon.

really i'd like to see what it would cost to have Hamer build a Standard with floyd!

also have about tried GMW before. then there's Guiterez (sp) and a few others?

for cheapo, i've got an import Dean ML, but it neck drops. don't know how an American one would do?

I tried a couple of them at Guitarded Center, I thought they played and sounded really nice, and they have nice, thin necks(which I like), but they are ridiculously overpriced(what else is new with Gibson, right?). I would try to find one used, if at all possible.

There's no reason Gibson couldn't build these guitars and sell them at the $1500-$2000 street price. Their prices are ridiculous.

I recently grabbed one from a forum member. I really like it. I've gone through countless Les Pauls, from Studios through Reissues and Customs but never bonded with any of them. The Axcess is pretty different from most LPs - its lighter, the Floyd (obviously), coil tap and the super-duper sculpted neck joint. Its a great guitar and is rock solid, IMO. However the new price tag is pretty nasty.

First thing that stuck me is that they are LIGHT, really light which stuck me as odd due to the floyd being much heavier than a TOM.

It was not set up though so I can't speak for how they play, I did like the heel very much.

I was hoping to see more on the used market by now, so the prices would drop, but there are not a lot out there and they still seem to be well north of $2k.

I could always order a Carvin, but by the time you spec out a nice one you're approaching $2k, and resale would be half that if I don't like it. :aww:

I don't know why more manufacturers don't make a set neck, short scale, mahogany / Floyd guitar. That's why I'm trying to figure it out - maybe the combination just doesn't work? Or is it that there's just not that many people out there that want one..?

I've tried one but never bonded with it. The playability was good but it didn't sound as good as my LP Standard

I don't know if you have considered Indie guitars. Although I have no idea if they are any good or not, I think they are nice looking and the price is inexpensive.

I remember hearing good things about them from NAMM 2009...IIRC.

Its still showing on the Gibson wesbsite. If they're going to discontinue it, then damn, I'm glad I grabbed one when I could!

ESP Eclipse II will get you there for under $1500 used. They are very well built guitars.

I got a brand new (floor model) one at work it is an ice tea or sunburst, I forget, email me if interest and I will take some pics, probably looking to get rid s.DiMaggio@russomusic.com

The Epiphone Les Paul with the floyd is really nice, especially for the price.....

Some great ideas here - thanks!

The price on those Epiphones is unbelieveable. Does anyone know if they're made of real mahogany, or is it basically sawdust and glue... I would think it has to be at that price.

I'm interested to know too Randy.... If they actually have half decent woods, then it could be a great guitar once you add on a few upgrades!
