I probably been late on this.. but am getting one still... Any twin jet experts could tell me what's the best preamp tube to go with ?

I often hear the TJ sound weird and many gave up their TJ but retains the Uber... But let's say if any mods could be done changing from KT88 to el34 would it be closer to the Uber tone?

We have both. Both sound great, and can be dialled in pretty similar really.

Funny but EL34's in the TJ didn't sound very good to me, it felt a bit thin anaemic all round, and we went back to KT88's. It really seems like that amp was designed around the KT's (transformers, depth circuit, power amp voltages?) so I would say don't go chasing unless you can't help yourself.

I also wouldn't get hung up how 'radically' different each brand of preamp tube are purported to sound by some. After extensive testing we've confirmed what I think many already know deep down - there's not much tonal difference at all. There's some variation in gain as expected, but comments like 'a blanket was lifted off' and 'it's impossible to get good tone with JJ's' is utter nonsense, unless you have a faulty tube. I guess these days the best tubes are the ones you can find.

Rehashed internet myths and forum hyperbole have gotten so out of control that you really can only believe 1% of what you hear. Including this? Maybe - try for yourself by recording close-miked clips and blindly comparing them later, preferably re-amping so the playing is identical. The blind part is critical, otherwise you'll hear what you want to hear!

Enjoy the amp and please report back (y)

Hi @ZEN Amps ... Thanks... After I hear the clips which Reza putting out I gotta get one... The tone just sound massive high gain... The saturation thickness is there it's natural 3D and gooeyness... Chug seems to be addictive thou.... If ya check out his clips like it or not... But it appeals to me... Maybe it's recording tone is different translate to playing 1 in real ?

I'm not familiar with the clip you mentioned but I can say that most recordings I hear online do not sound even remotely good to me. There is good stuff out there, but it really seems to be the exception. And trouser flapping SPL really is an in-person phenomenon

This doesn't get brought up enough and I myself have failed to mention this in other TJ threads. That amp was definitely made for KT88's. With EL34's it added tons of sizzle and fizz that is hard to dial out and makes the EQ even more frustrating to work with. I don't recommend it at all.

Bogner uses JJ tubes with all of his amps. I would just stick with those.

Thanks alot @Purity for the tubes brand used advice... just wonder how can i decipher the serial number? i just wanna know which year it was... Thanks ;)
