I'm going to be rearanging and improving my half ass "studio". Have a lot of space to play with. I have 3 different rooms. The main room being 13'x33', one at 13'x13' and one at 13'x7'. Not sure what I'm going to use for what yet. But I'd like to see some of your setups to get some general ideas. And any advice is appriciated. :)

Why is it half ass?
Shoved in a corner of my main room. Got my singer 10' away with no isolation. Guitar cabs are in the same room as everything else, etc, etc. I'll take a pic later and show you :D

The world of GOBOS to isolate the mics, not necessarily the band. Everyone with isolation headphones... acoustic treatment on wall. BAM! Done. I'm currently redoing my whole basement. New bathroom, one main recording and mixing area, a workout room in the back. I'll post pics when i get there.

I have never heard a bad J.B. recording. just saying...

That new Fortin won't make your tone any worse either...

PM me your number and we'll talk about recording some time ;)

What kind of gear are you recording with? That's really whats important. Isolating the singer and cabs is pretty simple.
Imac with Logic Pro, Mackie HR824's (and a pair of KRK Rocket 8's too but don't use them for mixing), a shitty presonus interface soon to be upgraded to an Apogee, Mackie Big Knob..... Pretty much it besides mics and stuff like that.

I just can't decide what I want to do where ,and want to see some other peoples setups to get some ideas and stuff like that.

Hey Greg, are you very familure with Logic? I'd love to talk some time.

I'm not very familiar with it, but I'll explain why when we have time to talk :)

Everyone seems to be a buzz about this apogee stuff which I understand to be really good.. but what is wrong with Presonus? I've got an older firepod 8 mic in for recording drums and it seems pretty sturdy and reliable to me?

I have about the same stuff JB. For my interface I ended up going with a Tascam DM3200 digital mixer. Does the control surface, fw i/0 / live mixer all in one. It was between that or the Apogee rackmount stuff. Really happy with it.

I took a spare bedroom and gutted it....took the big 5 x 15 closet and turned it into an iso room and double walled the rest. Our bedroom is right down the hall and with a blasting marshall, no noise in the bedroom! I need to do alittle bit more treatment, but its nice the way it is. Very comfortable and easy on the ears. Mixes translate great too.

Here's the iso room:

I'd wager that doing some re-arranging to get your monitors centered on one wall, and up higher so they're at ear level when you sit down @ the mixer would yield favorable results.

IMO it would be better to go "all out" on the big room and make a really nice control room and still have room in the control room for recording than it would be to compromise on construction and stuff to try and get all the rooms workable. I turned the dining room of our house into my mixing suite, and just find places in the house to set up gobos and whatnot to track.

Here's my "control room"

To me, i'm finding my Presonus is coloring my guitar tone too much. It's not as "true' as I'd like it to be. Might be something I'm doing to though as I'm a newb with my currect equipment/software.

Very cool George! That's the type of stuff I want to see. Wow, even a mini split system for a/c. I've installed quite a few of those and they work great. I'm going to PM you with a question.

That looks great man. And yeah, I'm thinking about using the big room for my "control" room, and use the others for isolation.
