So I've got a Fulltone OCD v.4 right now...and its awesome. I've been using it with the drive set low and volume high to push my amp a little harder. It has a cool Marshall vibe going on, but its lacking when you turn the drive anywhere past 1:00.

That being said I'm looking to add a couple more OD's or even a distortion pedal to my board. I just like to have a variety of "flavors" of gain to work with...give me some suggestions of a couple pedals to add to my board that would give me some variety.

I've thought about a Sparkle Drive, and I also like the Suhr Riot. And I've also heard good things about the BB Preamp. Honestly I'm not looking for anything in particular, just trying to "expand my OD horizons"

Give me some suggestions.

A couple OD/Distortion pedals that I've played and really enjoyed:

T-Rex MAB Batio Signature Pedal
Suhr Riot
Scream Cheese (amped up Tube Screamer)
Maxon OD-808

That Scream Cheese was awesome (a friend of mine was running it w/ his MAKO into a Port City 2x12 V30's and it absolutely killed!) specially when I got to play it w/ his EBMM JP7!!!

Good luck w/ the hunt

The three I'm most interested in are the OCD, Carl Martin PlexiTone, & Suhr Riot. The Koko Boost looks cool too...

Awesome, I definitely like the Riot, and I'm totally gonna check out the Scream Cheese.

guessing from ur avatar that ur a tremonti fan too... Mark uses a TREX MAB OD pedal on his rig as his main OD... at least he used to the last time i saw him. (prob like 2 yrs ago at this point)

It sounds like you are using your OD pedals into the clean of your amp. That is one use. But from your sig with a JSX, I am wondering what you are missing with the onboard distortion on the JSX?

I would get an overdrive to boost your JSX, that would make sense. The Maxon OD-808 or Timmy would be great choices for that. I don't think something like a Barber dirty bomb (which is a great high gain pedal) would help you much considering your amp. I use the dirty bomb on my Single channel amps.

I agree here, the amp distortion should be the main tone using to OD as an added flavor to enhance the distortion built in. Im not really huge fan of high gain pedals because for me I love my 5150 as a base tone and use pedals to enhance it. I pretty much always run the 5150 w/ a tubescreamer as my main sound, on occassion I switch it up and actually use an MXR Zakk Wylde OD (that I got for free when I bought the head) and i get some cool sounds there.

Should've clarified...I LOVE the OD on my JSX, but I want one pedal to add some "hair" to my leads, and maybe another for the clean channel for a nice sparkly clear sound. I also would consider a distortion box for the clean channel for a different flavor of gain.

I thought I loved the OCD until I tried the Fulltone PLimsoul. More gain, better presence (more realistic), less flubby bass.

Anyone try the Keeley Luna Overdrive yet? It looks awesome.

I've had a fair few, the ones that really stuck around are:

BB preamp (really versatile and a great boost, i'm actually using this as a clean boost atm)
MI Audio Blue Boy Deluxe (Super versatile TS like pedal)
Blackstar HT dual (really adds it's own blackstar flavour, but in a good way, crunchy goodness, had it modded too for more amp-like response)

ones i'd like to try

RAT (not sure which model tho)
Suhr Riot
Nobels ODR-1 overdrive
BYOC Overdrive 2

Dude I got a keeley baked mod ts9 today and its pretty sick. On its on it's a ballsier, gainer SRV tone. As a lead boost it's amazing, violin like, great compression and sustain. It stacks really really well with clean boosts and lighter od's too.

Oh and don't over look cheaper od's like the sd-1 just to have different flavors around. I think I'm gonna mess around with modding mine.

For actual 'drive'??
BB Pre
OCD

For actual 'boost'??
Creation Audio Labs Mk.4:23 Pro (my 'deserted island' stomp, if there were such a thing...)

Peace,
Mo

Oh and if you want a pure clean boost, the Surreal more is a really good one as well.

For boost:
Surreal More Pedal
Suhr Koko Boost
Klon Centaur

For overdrive:
Kalamazoo
Fulltone Fulldrive 2
Skreddy Screwdriver
Klon Centaur
Crunchbox
Ethos Overdrive

I didn't care too much for the Plexitone. I usually don't make an attempt to get all my distortion out of a pedal. Never seems to sound as good as an amp despite its hype. Most of the ODs I have liked give the amp slight clean breakup or just add a little bit on top of what the amp is already doing.

I tried a roccaforte bastard that was badass ... It is more of a boost pedal, but was the best one i have ever heard. It added more 'hair' to the tone without any coloration. Super quiet too compared to others i have tried
