Let's talk about OD pedals...

Yeah, get Jerry's More pedal. That's my pick. People seem to like it a lot. I need to get one. They aren't super-expensive, and they have a high satisfaction rate on the boards.

Or get some standard pedal like an OCD or a TS808. Those are always nice to have because people describe different OD pedals in relative terms. So even if you don't like it, you'll know what to buy next because people always say, "It's like and 808 except..." or "It's totally different from a TS9." Plus they are standards because they work for a whole lot of people.

I don't care what anybody says. I still like this topic. Even if it does turn into a "name every overdrive pedal in existance" thread.

Yea, I don't think it will turn into that...I just like hearing different opinions on these kind of topics since there are so many to choose from.

did u find any info on the scream cheese?

Sure did...sounds awesome, its really chunky sounding to my ears from the clip I heard. Definitely gonna keep that one on my radar.

I think everyone should own a ProCo Rat at least once. It's a surprisingly good sounding pedal. Also it's pretty versatile.

For boost:
Surreal More Pedal
Suhr Koko Boost
Klon Centaur

For overdrive:
Kalamazoo
Fulltone Fulldrive 2
Skreddy Screwdriver
Klon Centaur
Crunchbox
Ethos Overdrive

I didn't care too much for the Plexitone. I usually don't make an attempt to get all my distortion out of a pedal. Never seems to sound as good as an amp despite its hype. Most of the ODs I have liked give the amp slight clean breakup or just add a little bit on top of what the amp is already doing.

+1. Despite the great clips I sold off the Plexitone as well.

I use a Maxon OD820 and a BB Preamp.

A great company under the radar, around here at least, is Barber. They have some great OD pedals.

you didn't mention what amp you were playing.. but if it's a marshall voiced amp? tube works tube driver.

I will add something that most people would probably will dismiss but that is OK.

The best one I have ever heard I own. I have played it next to everything major OD you can think of - OCD', Fulltones Fulldrive 2, TIM, Timmy,Wampler, Sparkle Drive, Cream Tone, Gristle King, TS808, Bad Monkey, BYOC Brown Sound, Barber Dirty Bomb, Suhr Riot etc,,, etc....

http://www.effectspedalboutique.com SRB808 double sided OD. There is no better period. There are a few almost as good with different flavors like the Gristle King for example but not many. I have had it for about 6 years now and it kicks major ass, clean all the way up to 10 - and you can still hear string separation on chords. Yeah it's that good. Reviewed on youtube.

No matter what amp I have used it on it sounds stellar and I mean stellar. People always come up to me to ask me what the hell I am using. They can always hear me stand out in the mix even with 2 other guitarists in there on occasion.

Absolutely!

I actually like the Turbo RAT best. Tighter lowend (but still huge) and higher output for boosting

Peavey JSX...mostly channels 1 and 2.

Channel 2 has a TON of gain, so much so that I can't really get like a nice bluesy/ZZ Top gain out of it which I'm just now finding out. So I want something for a nice blues, semi-gainy crunch I can use over the clean channel, and I also want something that will spice up the gain channel since its kinda dry sounding. I'm thinking something like a really nice STP sound...just really clear sounding but still maintaining a fair amount of gain.

i'd probably try something along the lines of a ts type pedal for that. just my .02. ymmv.

Dyna Red Distortion is my fav. I have had quite a few also. Rockett Copper Boost. Aldrich,etc.etc.. The Dyna with the gain way down is the most responsive and amp melding I have heard yet as a boost. It sounds like the amp and is really nice as a distortion pedal in itself. There is a reason pay insane amounts for the BJFE pedals. You can get it here much cheaper with the new Donner and Bjorn efforts.

check out the Xact Tone Precision Overdrive / Multi / Atomic. Great stuff for driving into cleaner pre/post
