I may be starting up a Dooom band real soon, so I'm taking a second look at my fuzz collection. I'm going to play guitar in this band, and I'm using a Red Bear MK120 through a VHT FB with a V30 H30 criss-cross. Might be doing some shopping soon.
I have:
Zvex Mastotron (used mostly for bass)
Devi Ever Hyperion
Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz (modded to have more volume)
Keeley Modded Pro Co Rat (sorta fuzzy)
I have used, owned or just tried:
Roger Mayer Voodoo Axe Fuzz
Blackout Effectors Twosome (awesome pedal)
Zvex Fuzz Factory
Boss Fuzz
Keeley Fuzz Head
EH Big Muff
I like the Zvex gated thing that the FF and the Mastotron do really well. It gives you the splatty Velcro fuzz tone. I tried the Blackout Effectors Twosome once and really liked that. The Fix'd Fuzz does the gated/velcro fuzz sound too, and that's what I liked about the Twosome.
The Musket is a great fuzz too. It's a bit fatter and a little more rounded fuzz. I already have the Tweak Fuzz for that kind of sound, but I might go shopping. You know how GAS is.
The Devi Ever might be on the chopping block. I liked it at first, but it seems a bit too harsh and the controls don't tame it for me. The problem I see for what I may keep is that I'm toying with the idea of building a second pedalboard for guitar. The Mastotron and the Rat would stay on the bass board. So I'm going to start looking.
What have you guys tried and what do you recommend?
