Since P50E's have been pretty popular in the classifieds lately, I am curious to see what others think of them. I myself have found it hard to like them. First off, I have an older Fat bottom cab with the no label P50's and I'm sure they are WELL broken in. To me, they are very clear and almost somewhat dull to me. They lack any kind of sizzle at all. I have to really crank my CLX before they really start to move and sound decent. This is actually the second Fat bottom cab I've owned, the first one I had was newer and those P50's seemed to almost have more of a greenback flavor to them, from what I can remember. Are all P50's the same, or are there better one's than others?

What combo's of speakers have you guys used in your FB cabs and liked? I was thinking possibly an X pattern of P50's and either two V30's, or even two greenbacks. Opinions?

I've had great results with VHT heads and my Splawn cab loaded with V30s/K100s

Mine should be here Tuesday I will let you know my opinion. From what I can remember when I did play one it fit the Pitbull amp amazingly.

No label P50? that interests me quite a bit. GC has a used VHT FB cab for $499 (still do). I was going to buy it but I made them open the back and there was no label. I was not aware of a no label P50. Now I will always wonder...Would have saved me a little $$$$ I do know there are the "pitbull" labels and now the newer P50 label.

Too bad Mr. Fryette doesn't have a thread on here.

i like p50 speakers, they was my favorite when i owned a d120 and ultra lead.

Yeah, some of the early one's had no sticker on the magnet. You should have grabbed that cab, $500 is a great deal if it is in great shape.

My FB cab has sounded AWESOME with ALL my amps, especially the Pittbull Ultralead. Hands down, KILLER cab!

i have a deliverance cab loaded the same way. sounds awesome with the ultra leads.

i have never tried the p50's, but really want to....

I'm not a fan of the P50's. I pulled them and replaced with all V30's. I tried to x them with 100's but it wasn't for me. All 30's kill in that cab

Thanks, just a tip. You will get much better results if you Max the master volume and adjust channel volume accordingly.

That is indeed the trick on the CL amps, but I've found with the CLX it doesn't really change much.

I actually like the P50E's in my VHT cab that I use with a 50 CL w/EQ. The clarity to me is more so CL as its clear through my other 4x12's that have v30's and 75's. If your technique is sloppy it really will be apparent with VHT amps. I actaully like the clarity of the CL myself and feel with that head the P50E's are a well suited match

Haha yes it will definitely keep you on point. Every mess up it noticed

I used P50Es in my FB cabs for about 6 months before I yanked them. I really liked them for a while but then after a few months I started hearing this "hollowness" in the mids that was driving me nuts. I just thought they lacked character. They were super tight though and had great low end but I also think that is the FB cab. I took them out and put in all V30s and amp very happy. The hollow mids are gone and the cabs sound killer.

I'm also curious as to what speakers mix well with the P50s

I tried several deferent speakers awhile back and didn't have very good luck, but don't remember the particulars anymore? Just remember it was a hard one to match up.

Guess i like P50's with the Vht amps, but not a big fan with other amps. Also not a fan of V30's, like Eminence Swamp Thangs and Governors better for modern amps, and Weber better for mid gain.

Same thoughts here. P50 was designed for vht.

I had some v30 and was way too harsh for my taste.

I'm digging the 65' tho. I want another 6505+ and a g-65 loaded cab.

Yep, exactly, I feel like I only start to get some presence and definition out of them with the volume uncomfortably high.
