Does anyone have a line on roadcases (I need a 10 space rack), that are made from material that isn't really heavy. It seems like every rack I find weighs 120lbs empty.

I think ATA Rack cases = heavy. To make them ATA rated, I think they have to make them heavy.
Only other option is the SKB and Gator plastic cases, not sure if they are ATA weighted, but they are alot lighter in general than traditional wood ATA racks.

Does anyone make foam lined cases that just may not be up to ATA specs? I prefer the look and piece of mind of a foam lined case, but damn, they are so freakin' heavy.

Any interest in a used 12 space ?
Its the higher end skb. I haven't used it in ages, collects dust. Has some sticker glue on it from removed stickers.

Does it look like an ATA with the foam, or is it the molded plastic SKB style? 12 is really a little bigger than I need.
I really need a 10 space with casters. And, even then, it's more of a want than a need. My main rig doesn't require it.

Check out Brady Cases. They have a polypropylene shell that is 30% lighter than wood.

No problem. Been talking to Brady and thinking about ordering something else. It will be Propylene shells this time though, as you say, the regular wood is heavy as hell. If you email him what you are looking for, he will get back to you soon with a quote.
One word of advice on amp racks......ordering an amp rack is sort of like having a woman's name tattooed to your arm. If you order one, get the amp spaces big, like Marshall big shell sized so that about anything will fit in it unless you are damn certain you are keeping something smaller. Then you're stuck. I ordered several over the years with 2 amp spaces, one big and one Mesa sized. Yes, you can cut the foam to make it bigger, but it isn't pretty! Best to go big and get extra foam if needed.....

I just need a regular 8 or 10 space rack, not an amp rack. Been there done that -- not doing that again (and that's coming from a guy who actually went on tour and played professionally) not just looking at an ATA case in my bedroom. 
Even then, like I said, I'm not in a rush. . .the rack isn't going to be for my main gigging rig at the moment anyway. The Brady stuff is cool, but more than I want to spend for a rack. I'll probably find something used, and cheap.

bumping this topic for a quick question, but when ordering a rack do most people buy the size for exactly what they need or buy larger than what they are going to use?
ive got an 8 rack planned out, but was thinking of ordering a 10 or 12, not sure what the normal thing to do is though?
do the polypropylene cases have a plastic smell to them? that is one of the few things i am insanely allergic to.....
is the weight saving worth it?

Plus, if you have a power amp in there, it gives it some breathing room and I always find it better to have a space between your power distribution and anything in the audio path.

I had one it was god awful heavy. I quickly downsized from a 10 space to a 6 space rig and now use a shallow gator case. Have had noi problems gigging heavily with it whatsoever

+1 on Getting a few extra spaces. I only needed 4 spaces for my Bass rack rig, but I bought a 6U case. I now have all 6 spaces full (added a power amp).

i did some research over on HRI, i was looking at getting a foam internally lined case, front and back removable covers. OSP on the internet came to mind but i learned they are pretty much junk
sucks on the plastic smell too. polypropylene put me in the hospital once, almost killed me. so now im probably looking at 3/8" plywood and with weight a concern, would it be better to split it up into two 6 space racks totally 12 spaces to make moving it easier?
i haul one or two 4x12 cabinets for outside gigs and practice, but i do agree there is nothing worse on the top of my list than having to move your own PA and guitar gear and also unload it after a tiring gig the same night.
just wondering how you guys with the large racks are doing and/or how heavy they really can get/be?
i know how many spaces i need, but i dont want to build a rack i cant handle myself or move
