I am a guitar player needing to buy a whole new rig. I want to be able to build presets via either midi with a tube head or a Line 6 HD Pro type setup. I love Line 6 but to play live it concerns me. I hear the horror stories of losing the tone and washing out at high volumes. I have about $1000 to spend. Suggestions?? I need everything... A cabinet, preamp, effects and floor controls. Help!!??? Seriously, any advice would be well appreciated...

Ive got a HD500. I have used it through dual 50w power monitors; set up stero. It sounded good and cut through with a live drummer in a small room. There are lots of guys who use this (type) setup for live situations. I've also played the same patches through a 212 cabinet, and it also sounded good (a bit more boomy, and low end, than the monitors).

For me, it's a serviceable rig, but not something I would consider for bigger rooms and crowds. At that moment I would just get a 5153, 50w, couple of nice delay/verb/phase pedals, all for around 1K.

That's all my opinion, based on my limited experience.

Do you have anything except a guitar? Im confused if you already have a line 5 hd pro?

He needs a cab too though, a 5153 and a cab with effects for 1k? I dunno thats a tall order

Maybe a 6505+ I see these for 700ish with a cab?

It is one of the best deals in the range though, I myself would still get the 5153 50watt with a 2x12 for 1k, and deal with no effects for one show. Maybe even grab a crappy fx model pedal to pull off any effects you might "need".

Yep...JOYO makes a quality sounding set of pedals, that can typically be had on the cheap (40-50$) per pedal used; sometimes less.

If anyone knows where I can get a 6505 and a 412 cab for $700 please let me know!! I actually own the Fender Mustang Floor amp modeling unit. Its very similar to the Line 6 HD. I just mentioned Line 6 as I didn't think too many people knew about the Fender Floor. Is the 6505 midi ready??

Head should be $500. They jump up to $700 sometimes. GC online always has 5150 cabs in the $300 range. I paid $900 for my 5150 head and matching 4x12 in 1994. Used of course. I thought it was a mistake and literally was puting the cab in my car expecting someone to run out and try to stop me. $700 for both these days should be possible. Shop around.

Played live with an HD500 into tube power amp through a 412 for two years back a few years ago. I was very happy with my rig and it sounded consistently good. Never had any issues cutting through. The other guitarist in our band played a 1959 SLP reissue/1960B.
I'm not in love with all of the amp models. Usually stuck with one or two clean sounds and a JTM/JCM dual amp patch I made that sounds really good. Nice range of effects too. FWIW, I tried it direct into the board on a couple occasions and it sounded pretty bad. Running it into a tube power amp or fx return of a decent tube head is the way to go.

Thanks for the great info. Can you tell me what kind of music you were playing?? I will be playing music in the Godsmack vein. Its these overdriven tone I hear that get lost in the shuffle as I understand it. You obviously had good luck with your setup. I love the fact that you can build entire patches and have them at the click of the button on the floor. But then again, a great overdriven ballsy tube tone is tough to beat. I need to figure it out!!!
