Stuck in a blizzard here so looking to see what you all say before I pull the trigger on something today. NEED a good, tone, amp modeler, etc for strictly home practicing, noodling, etc.. won't be recording much and my live rig is locked down. I like high gain tones...ie Petrucci, Aldrich, Norum, Andy James, Timmons, etc... Play lots of lead when practicing....building chops etc. Want an affordable piece of gear that will get me tones to keep me inspired to keep practicing. I think Im down to the following

Line 6 HD500 or Yamaha Thr10?? Eleven Rack

I do have art-sla2 poweramp and many cabs so running a preamp or something similar is an option. Thanks guys

Cory

let's hear your opinions and hopefully I can get something headed my way today. Cheers

Line 6 should have a more options????

I did play on this guys little spider combo and for what it is and the amount of hate Ive read I was kind of impressed. id never buy one but wasnt bad for practice.

That Yamaha is pretty damn cool but im thinking the Line 6 is going to have more options.

Cory,

I had the HD500 and ran it 4cm into a 6505......for what it is, it's ok....cleans and mid gain are a lot better than the high gain stuff to me. It all starts to sound the same after a minute...felt like it was really sterile after a while. I'm not really a tweaker, and just felt like I spent more time chasing tones than playing. For a fun toy for a minute, you really can't beat it for the price though...if you like to tweak, then you're good....if not, there's a guy named 'meambobbo' on the Line6 forums that's made a GRIP of patches, most of them high gain that are pretty decent....the only problem with that kind of stuff is those guys make patches to fit THEIR setups, not yours. So they always sounded just a little bit off to me.

Eventually traded it for a new cab and went back to the 6505 with a 10 band in the eq. I spend a lot more time playing now lol.

I've never used the Yamaha or even heard it but I've used Line 6 products for years. For what you get for the price, it really can't be beat...

Snowed in by the same blizzard here in Madison.

I ordered the THR10 from Hello Music for $225. Probably not as flexible as the HD. I had one of those in the past too, but it was almost too many variables for me. The THR will be delivered next week.

Thanks bro... damn tough decision cuz I cant and wont waste anymore money on something that really doesn't do it for me. Perfect world I'd get an axe fx 2 but I can't swing that. Cheers

Looking at your sig, man? I really wouldn't bother with the HD...nothing in it is gonna come close to the Kali++..Rezamatix has an Axe Ultra in the Classifieds that would work a lot better for you. ;)

Yeah, I saw that.. Axe Fx is alot of tweaking too tho.. Maybe I'll just stick to my old digitech gnx1 that I hate and NOT practice   :D

There are some killer Petruuci type patches for the POD HD. Line 6's custom tone website is great. You can download patches that other people spend hours developing and keep and/or tweak what ya like a delete what you don't like. Lots of fun!
