I go back and forth between tube amps and modelers constantly. Using a few pedals or my VP4 with my tube amp, or just direct into my tube amps are still may favorite sounds.

For convenience I use my computer plugins more than anything; and when i want something different I use my Stadium XL.

I'm at the point where I have the guitar gear I want/need to make the guitar sounds I like, want, and more.

I plan to continue following NAM and other future technologies, but very pleased with what I have now and how it sounds. I have more amps and keyboards here than room, but nothing I want to sell; but no room to buy anything else. SMH

Same here, you kind of have to nowadays to save on the tubes and tbh it's not bad to have all those effects. If you think about it less signal for cable to travel through too and it can sound better in that sense.

The power sections in some of these new models like the Katana Artist or Quilter and that level of quality are so damn good and aside from the tech getting better over the years the power section improvements and quality standards there have gone up and cost has stayed reasonable. This really allows for that real amp feel it more of a real amp behavior IMO.


I was checking out a couple stuff and went with the Katana Artist Mkll but the Blackstar Silverline was a tad nicer I have to say although both behave like real amps the Blackstar uses the Sharc processors and a good handful.... Same stuff Fender uses for ToneMaster I believe but I may be wrong. Dude that thing sounded pretty much like a real tube amp, moved the same air and I had an EVH 5150, JCM 800, Twin etc etc in the room. Needless to say it blew my mind but I was more after a more than decent practice amp so went with the Katana Artist Mkll as it was on sale for like 500 bucks.


Pretty cool thing about the Blackstar Silverline is it had different power tube models and emulated different power sections too pretty damn nice I have to say and smooth as glass/butter.

Digital ain't bad in that sense, the pedal models are fantastic and the end tone is pretty good. Dude with a Marshall tube amp was impressed with the Katana Artist too when I jammed at the Doll Hut a while back and couldn't believe it wasn't tube so this stuff aint bad IMO.

Aside from the modelers the fx units are again based on after actual pedals and their behavior and not simply captures of sweet spots if one thinks about it even down to the circuit.


Some of the stuff from Boss for example like the 200 and 500 series is almost indistinguishable from the actual units they are modeling and feel like the real thing too. Plus I don't have to hook up into a laptop or whatever to use it either.


In that sense the modelers really offer a more authentic and more real representation of said product. I think the captures are great but in the end it will probably only serve and enhance the modeling to make even better models IMO.

If you think any Boss pedal sounds/feels indistinguishable from a tube amp, there is the problem.

No I'm saying the Boss multi fx like the 200 and 500 units sounded as good as the real pedals


I was pretty blown away. Stuff aint "capturing" and it's actually modeling the pedals down to the circuit and it's pretty impressive for what it is.

I had a Boss GT-100, GT-1000 and GX-100. The Boss effects were very good, COSM got old sounding, but their AIRD that replaced it is very good.

Unfortunately, they don't do a MFX that has all the Boss pedals as that would hurt some pedal sales. They always leave something or many things out.

I'd like a digital MFX from Boss that models every Boss pedal ever made, with up to 8-10 effects per patch depending on computer power needed, with a movable insert / send/return block that can be placed anywhere in the effect chain. I'd pay $1000, or even more for it for it...much cheaper than buying every Boss pedal ever made!

One of my favorite compressors is digital from Boss, the CP-1X; and it's modeled in the GX-100 too.

Yeah if you think about it some of the vintage digital stuff should probably pick up as much or more value than analog counterparts. Of course both hard to reproduce but part for part the digital stuff would be harder to remake or impossible in most cases as the tech just isnt made anymore or can be made anymore.

Also consider Playstation and their move going all digital in the NexGen console influencing the vintage digital market

Its so good after getting a DM2W again to pair with a DD5 I may get a MD200 or this new thing from Boss to finish off the chain or a Boss Core 1000 or a Line 6 HX Stomp variant.

Not sure if it's got every pedal they ever made but it looks pretty neat

Modeling effects like Chorus and Delay is VERY different than modeling a full tube amp.

Digital effects have been very good for a long time, and the only time they are usually screwed up is if they mess with the dry tone.
