Sounds like EMGs through an ADA MP-1. Back then they let the bass guitar carry the low end. Which is why when you add the rest of the mix, this sounds fantastic. I really wish we could have gotten some more Vito.

I was going to say the same thing. More proof to me that most of us have used too much low end on our recordings. I just saw a Joe Bonamassa video about letting each instrument fill each frequency.

I always dug Vito more than White Lion itself. Saw them a few times. Vito actually formed the band in 1983 with Mike Tramp.

That's my sense of it as well. Band conflicts and all of the red tape that goes with trying to be successful. It didn't take much of that to suck all of the joy out of it for him. At a certain level, sometimes (perhaps oftentimes), the music itself becomes the least important part of keeping the boat afloat.

I think Vitto was in it entirely for the love of music and guitar. Not unlike some pedal builders, some of whom are amazing, passionate craftsman, but who have zero stomach for the business aspect of it.

That recording is damn near perfect. I heard 1 note that was a tiny bit flubbed, and another note that kind of hung on and rang over another note that he'd probably like to have back. I thought the tone was pretty nice. Just enough gain to get those techniques to pop, but not too much to muddy things up.

I kinda wonder what Michael Wagener was hearing when he mixed this Big Game? He has an awesome resume and done excellent on many many albums. I have two pressings of Big Game on vinyl and I have to turn the highs down A LOT compared to any other record I have. The highs are just cranked. Pornograffitti(also him) is somewhat the same on LP. Like I said, he mixed Master of Puppets, and that's a bit muffled compared to Ride the Lightening and others. I like Master though. Just curious if he used another console/studio/monitors as well.

Oh man that solo

I was learning that a couple months ago and I just can’t get the speed. What a bad ass Vito was.

My lame attempt, I can’t get my brain to fire fast enough to keep up… insert jokes about age, lack of intelligence, multiple concussions:

Your rig sounds good man.
It’s “funny” ( I guess). There’s only a handful of real (what I’d consider) “world class” musicians/guitarists. I’d put VB in that group from that era anyways. …. But then there’s only a handful of players that can pull off /cop the original sound/style/swing etc. the rest of us are just relegated to the purgatory of woodshedding…

Digress…I’m in same boat as you…can hear it in my mind…little bit of a disconnect with the hands trying to keep up though. lol
