Locking Tuners - Which Do You Prefer

...I have Hipshot/Schecter's on my USA PT's and they tune really fast, which I like. I'm not sure of the gear ratio.

Just curious what others have found to be reliabe and stable for holding tuning.
 
Sweet. That's what I'm looking. What's the difference between Open and Closed gear?

I do see that Gotoh has relatively new MG-T locking tuners that have the typical thumb-screw locking mechanism. Those could be nice as well. I like the Gotoh 510 tuning buttons and the 21:1 ratio compared to the typical 18:1. I've never used them before, but Gotoh has a good reputation as well.

Either way, the Hipshot are great. No complaints here.
 
Hipshots open gear locking tuners. I've replaced my Phase I locking tuners in my PRS CU24 with Hipshots, I've put them on my JEM and RGD (which has SG381 MG-Ts). I'll be replacing the Gotoh SG381 MG-Ts in my other RGs with Hipshots. I've even got an Ibanez MM1 with those weird Magnum Locking HAP tuners that I'll be replacing with Hipshots. The button head options and the universal mounting plates are what really sells them for me. :)

i feel like i'm the only one here who doesn't like locking tuners.
 
Really surprised nobody has thrown a hat into the ring for the schaller M6 tuners that come on EBMM’s. Those are some of the best ive tried.

The worst would probably be the sperzels and maybe the grover locking tuners i had on an old bernie rico jr. i no longer own.

What's not to like about 'em? String changes are faster and more simple. Less string wrapped around the tuning post, so there's less stretch = string holds tune better.
 
Have used sperzel the most and have had no issues. I have a set of planet waves that are just sitting around. When used I liked the auto trimming feature and they seemed stable, but it was a hardtail... I've got hipshot on my two friedmans but they have Floyd's and locking nuts so not sure they are doing anything better than the sperzels. I also just put a set of gotoh vintage locking (like fender klusons but with a thumb wheel and am finishing a build with the gotoh delta series locking. The vintage style seem fine so far, will have to report back on the delta series.

Well, in my case, because I can't loosen and re-tighten the strings with locking tuners because they usually make the strings break. That's kind of a PITA if you have a bridge you have to adjust with the strings loosened like a TonePros wraparound.
 
I'm using Gotoh locking tuners as well as the Kluson revolutions. Both have been fantastic.
 
I’ve only used Grover and Fender and had no issues with either so wouldn’t hesitate to use them again

Loosen/tighten as in the locking mechanism or as in detuning? Your strings shouldn't be breaking if you detune...
 
Detuning. Yes, they break. Right where the string enters the post and it locks, it usually ends up facing away from the nut and bridge once it's locked and tuned up. It creates a pretty sharp angle in the string here, and that's where it breaks if I detune, and then tune up again. Not always, but not infrequently either.

It's been the same with PW locking tuners, locking Grovers, and locking Gotohs as far I remember.

Have you tried Hipshot? I've never had a string break.
 
Another vote for Hipshot. I have these on three guitars and they all work excellent
