If you want to hear some good Mark IV tone in action check out some newer Fates Warning.

Ive always hated their tone as well.

At least you can say it is unique. You know who it is with 1 note played :)

Chevelle had good tome with MK IVs imo.

Spot on! His tone works perfectly for what he does.

The Mk4 is a strange beast for sure. Its a total chameleon. Its an amp that changes personality right along with the weather. I love the MK4 and it will always be one of my favorite amps. I want to say its responsible for Hetfields tone on the black album. And we all know that Sad But True is considered his Ultimate tone (insert arguments). I cite Sad But True as waking me up to music, like ingrained music in me. I love all that about the amp but also hate it at the same time.

I guess its like that chick you can't get enough of but fight with and hate all at the same time!

When its good its amazing, when its bad, well you know you wanna off the bitch ;)

I don't like anything about LOG. I think they suck IMHO.
What if devin townsend and george lynch were in the band? :D

I fuckin love that tone! pure unsaturated balls to the wall alot of players would be scared to play with such little distortion, kick ass to me...and their riffs are amazing

+1

i love lower/not dimed distortion sounds that make you play them, not make you control them...i hate out of control distortion sounds

i like mark mortons tone a tad more than willie adlers, but together, they have a tandem sound that meshes well for live settings IMHO.

morton's sound has more of a vocal and honking mid sound live. willie's live tone is more present and crunchy...i like both of dey' tones though. straightforward and simple.

studio wise, you can't really even take anyone's word for it anymore what they're using, cause well....we all know how that goes.

I like the LOG tones, it's the vocals that wear on me after a very short time listening :scared:

I love Metal, especially brutal stuff, but LOG is horrible. Burn the Priest was better. The tone, the singing, all of it. I have never understood their popularity.

I like their guitar tones, and they sounds even better live, particularly when you're only a few feet away from them playing the songs on the stage.

A lot of modern metal tones don't really grip me at all. I think that's why I don't bother with most of it.

never listened to lamb ,so i just checked out a couple vids, not a fan of the band but the tone is definatly not the worst ive ever heard, i actually thought it was pretty good, it was a percussive sound ,not dark and oversaturated

This man is correct.

Additionally, I dig Petrucci's Mark V tone. I always thought LoG managed to shit can the IV/V's tone as well.

More man talk. :D But Chevelle may as well just bill themselves as a Tool tribute band.

They can't be that close, because I continue to like Chevelle, whereas Tool has gone downhill.

I can't stand their tone either. When I saw them live I disliked it even more. Sounded boxy & muddy live. The two bands before them had good tone so it wasn't a p.a. issue. When sound check started I just

I saw them live on the Wrath tour and they killed. Awesome tones. And this was in the Congress theatre in chicago - terrible sounding venue.

I love the tone they had on As the Palaces burn, pretty sure that was produced by devin townsend but I may be wrong.
Covering LOG songs really got my rhythm chops up to scratch when i was getting a bit more serious with guitar
