LOG's Mesa Mark IV tone is absolutely garbage....

c'mon now. I don't mind their tone. at least they don't sound like everyone else does. I can easily identify them by their guitar sound and the drummer. I get tired of hearing 5150s and rectos on every song

Chevelle had good tome with MK IVs imo.

Spot on! His tone works perfectly for what he does.

The Mk4 is a strange beast for sure. Its a total chameleon. Its an amp that changes personality right along with the weather. I love the MK4 and it will always be one of my favorite amps. I want to say its responsible for Hetfields tone on the black album. And we all know that Sad But True is considered his Ultimate tone (insert arguments). I cite Sad But True as waking me up to music, like ingrained music in me. I love all that about the amp but also hate it at the same time.

I guess its like that chick you can't get enough of but fight with and hate all at the same time!

When its good its amazing, when its bad, well you know you wanna off the bitch ;)

I agree about the sad but true tone, I love it!

Here is just the guitar track from sad but true, very good, but sounds much different when not in a live mix.

I just think LOG uses too much gain, then they boost the IV's with MXR GT-OD's as well.
Too blurry, cold and undefined for my liking.
But I am a fan and think their tone has gotten better on their last album Wrath.

I don't get that whole industrial ministry metal era thing. I can't really stand that shit. Hopefully, its a fad. But, that's just me.

Same here. They say that Rectos are the "wall of sound" but to me it sounds hollow and almost invisible, the way they mix them in with the 5150s. Dull.

Thanks for fixing it. It sounds fairly trebly through crappy laptop speakers...so I will give it a listen through the stereo.

It is still pretty fizzy/fuzzy through my studio monitors.
But I remember the thread you started, Petejt about how a bassy guitar tone can obscure the whole mix. This sad but true tracks is really good, since it isn't really bassy like ajfa, but sounds huge on the black album because there is a bass.

I love the tone on Ashes of the Wake. Everything else, including live, is piss poor IMO.

Oh, and look everyone, I'm back! Everyone pretend to care, in 3..2..

..just forget it.

Hey Roadifier,

Yep you're right about my thread, and the Sad but True example. I later listened to the clip through headphones on my stereo, and it sounds heaps better. It's bassy but has none of that "woof". Straightaway I could tell that once you locked a bass in with it, the whole sound would be massive. I guess Bob Rock taught James Hetfield a few things!- (Particularly the use of +8 microphones and mixing them at various levels for specific phase-cancelling...you get a mix of different sounds that interact and result in the final sound, which is hard to replicate with just a guitar & amp & speaker).

The other thing I noticed in the Sad but True guitar track was a slight bit of reverb, which I guess was added in post-production (at A&M Studios). It really adds some extra breadth and depth. It's something I've always done with my MarkIV, but only until recently did I learn how much it helped my sound.

I was also noticed the reverb thing with sad but true, I also have been using this trick for awhile because it really does give extra depth to my sound.

wrong.

that boost is only for solos, Marks the guilty culprit for the honky mids, Willies tone is much better.

I'm sorry man, but I think if it's gonna be metal, than metal it is, and my fancy towards that genre is definitely in the industrial 'Ministry' style of said asskicking. This song f*ckin' CLEANS HOUSE on so many levels, seriously - to me - takes a truckload of cookie monster vocal bands and just thumps 'em:

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x10y9x ... lood_music
(sorry, it ain't on YT)

And another one that's 'alright', doesn't have the same tear yer head off approach, but it works

Preferences are personal,
V.

I have a soft spot for ministry as I was their touring monitor guy for many years. RevCo too. Every year they have awesome musicians. We would play alot of festivals every year. Metal festivals. The only band that ive ever seen match or top the bands intensity was Slayer.

I know this thread is about LOG, but dont forget about these tunes...

true, but Marks got his mids up just a hair too much....

i'd like to hear marks tone jamming around town in his blues sit ins.

i bet you'd hear a WAY different approach.

his mids are honkish, but, for some reason, i like that tone. it sticks out and is instantly recognizable, yet it allows his rhythms to fit right in with willie and john.
