Looking at the Ceriatone Yeti/Chupa for 'Rodded Marshall!

Guys:

I've searched all boards and youtube, but can't seem to find any updated (2013) info on these amps.

I have a 5153 50w and am looking for a backup, and something a bit more Marshall-y. I play a lot of hard rock ala GNR, COC, AIC, Black Crowes, Pearl Jam, Kravitz, Foo Fighters, etc.

Anyone have any experience with either amp? I'm going for GNR and AIC "Facelift" tones, which are all modded Marshall.

Thoughts? Cheers!
 
I have a 50-watt Chupacabra and it slays for the modded Marshall tones. Depending on the application, sometimes tough to choose between the Chupacabra and the Quick Rod...
 
I had a 50 watt chupacabra for a few months. Nice amp overall, but it was pretty bright and aggressive, which some might not like. Still usable though, and fairly versatile (especially because of the 3 switches on the front)

This is basically what it sounded like



I haven't tried the yeti, but I have one on order - should be done in a couple of weeks.

For what it's worth, the AFD #35 is a cool amp as well if you're going for a GnR tone. I preferred that over the chupacabra.
 
I love my Chupa 100, best amp I've ever owned. It can be dialed in a number of ways, from VH type bright, to a low mid push, more tradtional Marshall, to vintage Plexi, etc. The cleans are also really nice and make for a great drive pedal friendly amp. It's also very reliable with excellent build quality (mine was built by them/Nik).

Here is me/mine in a full mix fwiw (mellow-ish tune, give it a moment, lol)...

Your signature says your Chupa has been modded by Cameron. How different is yours from stock?

Thanks! I've been asked this a few times and I wish I was more tech savvy to explain what all was done to it (resistors, capacitors, etc). I bought it second hand and the previous (original owner) had several minor things done to it. The mids are a little more chewy than it was in stock form as well as also having a wee more touch sensitivity. But really, the overall thing is the amp just has a bit more warmth to it (original owner felt it was too bright)...so not much honestly. Minor stuff I'm told (by Nik, who I took gut shots for and talked with via a few emails). They're bad ass amps in stock form to begin with. I'd own one regardless of the mods. (=

I've learned more about the amp since I tracked that tune. Sooo many little tricks and variables. I'm happy with the lead tone in that track but not like I am with the tones I'm getting lately, lol! A big find for me was speakers - I mic'd a G12H30 Anniversary for that tune but man, I'm now using it with some vintage G12H30 Blackbacks ('76) and holy christ - this is the tone I've always wanted.

This weekend I threw the amp into its plexi mode, (no breakup, really BIG sounding cleans), engaged one of the two bright switches and then ran the Bogner Red in front for the crunch. Yep, more tone goodness. This is my holy grail amp. :) I'd post that clip if you want more spammage. ;)
 
The Yeti is darker-voiced than the Chupacabra. I also have an AFD #35. Great amp. Plexi channel from the Chupacabra and the AFD CHANNEL which is HIGHLY customizable. Awesome amp!! If you weren't so far away I'd just say let's get together and play 'em. Unfortunately, I'm in So Cal...

BTW--between the Chupacabra and the Yeti, IMHO, can't go wrong either way-just depends what you're looking for. Nik is awesome to deal with and goes far and above to make sure you're happy with your purchase. Highly recommended :thumbsup:

Have you tried running your Yeti through UK made greenbacks? That's what I'd probably use if I get one.

Honestly I'd be more interested in hearing any more clips of the amp it's self if you have any. I'm trying to sell my H&K TAII in an effort to get a more Marshall-y amp myself and so far this Yeti sounds right up my ally.

Racerevlon: I LOVE Slash's tone. Basically, the tones I'm after are GNR (UYI and AFD), Tool, Alice in Chains, and anything that can cop SRV, Hendrix, Zepplin. Based on this, what do you think I should look toward: AFD #35, Yeti/Chupa??

I was actually also looking at Baron and Surreal Amps now...just to muddy the water a bit. Damn!!

I Kinda hate saying this but i also want to hear the "Chug factor" of a chupa and a yeti
 
I think you can get there with a Chup..not so sure about the AFD clone. I would go with the Chupa...
 
...and does anyone have experience with the Chupa vs. Yeti?

I would definitely recommend the AKA 100. I think there are better choices for the AFD tone, but it's closer than the chupacabra in my opinion. I've had both, and still have the AKA...really amazing amp.





edit:

oh, just realized that first video is of the LC 100.

well, it's the same lead channel anyway :rock:
