JVM 210H. No gain mods needed at all and take boosts well if you want to use one. Excels at hi gain metal tones. Used for around $900.
+1 all the way

JCM900 SL-X. See if you can find one that came stock with 5881 tubes. It will say so on the front.
Like many Marshalls, bear in mind this screams best on the louder side. Also answers kindly to a boost.

JVM410's can be had for $1000, especially if you'll be waiting 3 months, you'll have no problem finding one in that range. I was very close to buying one, so I've been looking. They've been around that price even on the RT classifieds. Go for the whole shebang, don't settle for the 210h just to save $100.

My 2 cents

jvm or vm or dsl. i would say go mesa though. never could understand why someone would by a marshall then send it off to get it modded to sound like a mesa.

j/k.

i have personally never heard a marshall that sounds like a mesa... or vice versa ;)

for plug and play with no need for mods and for under a grand I would suggest just picking up a used jvm being that the op plays metal and downtunes also. Jmp's are great amps but for metal you most likely need pedals to push it, or have expensive mods done just to get the tone that a jvm has stock.

thanks everyone for the comments.. it looks like jvm210/410 is the leader.. but if i get a chance to try different one's out i will surely do it.. and i own a 6505 so i really dont need a MESA.. plus im not looking for a MESA tone.. i want a Marshall tone with balls, grunt, and shit.. but i understand what your saying....marshall have been sounded very pleasuring to my ears here lately.. thanks guys

some may disagree with me on this, but a DSL should get you what you want. Heck, for $1000 you can even find some good modded ones. I got my Deluxe Voodoo modded DSL 50 for $750. Awesome amp.
I was just going to say this. I just recently plugged back into my DSL 100 and was very pleased. My nephew borrowed it for the studio last week and the tracks are really tight. Definately play one.

In that price range, I'd most definitely look into the JVM series.

Look for a late 70s master volume JMP. GREAT platform for pedals, and sound great by themselves too!

x100

Multiplied again. The JMP's with a nice boost can get VERY heavy.

okay guys thanks for input.. and for the ones thinking only person who can decide on an amp you want is urself.. well i live 2.5 hrs form GC. local shop only carries orange, mesa, and a few peavey's... and thats about it.. so for me to try all these different kind of marshalls that are out there would be well almost impossible.. unless my local shop gets one on a trade.. so thats why im asking what people opinion are.. it will be 3-4 months before i get one.. so maybe by then i will ahve the chance to play a few.. thanks..

i'll also vote for the JVM,

cue german youtube video demo
