So I am looking at some options for a new rig Big Mesa fan could not tell you why other then I am a Thrash metal and Metallica fan so that being said I own a mark v but would really like to branch out. I have owned just about every dual rectifier out there. I love the Mark 5 because it does so well with passive pickups. However the rectifiers are huge and fat sounding but not as tight as the Mark is there an amp out there that has the qualities of both? Tightness and big sound I love mesa but i really want to try something different I was thinking a Splawn saldono or rivera?? But i don't know much about voicings or the functions of these amps any ideas would be helpful try to feep it under 2000 please oh and something thats reliable as Mesas too let me know your thoughts i don't want to go back to EMGs but I feel they sound best with the looser rectifiers.

I know you just got a roadster, but other options are EVH5150 III 50 watt, red channel based of slo just like recto but tighter. Also you can pick up a used stiletto II and throw an EQ in the loop, I do this and can get it closer to a tighter sounding recto with more mids.

If you really like the mark amps, and you really like the recto amps, why not combine the two?

I'm putting together another stereo rig and can't agree more with you, love the tight scooped tone my mk3 delivers, and love that big aggressive tone of a recto.

JSP boost my recto's with what? is it a natural sound I don't want to process them too much : )

RJF I am for sure thinking about it but not sure I want to try more amps lol and I would go back to a rackto for sure then... also I have no clue how to build a stereo rig.

Siggy 14 I am just worried about the roadster's future resale value and thank you thats a great amp the 5150lll

Paulyc never heard of those is there any youtube or anything on them ?

Boost with an OD. I use an MXR GT-OD, but there are many pedals out there that will work. A good one will tighten up your amp's feel and low end without really altering your tone or making it sound processed.

Just saw you picked up a Roadster for a nice price, cool. I'd run an 808 or OD9 in the front and call it a day.

A stereo rig is not that hard to build. But, they are not for everyone. Dual head rigs are big and heavy. I love it though, when the delay/phaser/modulation bounces back and forth between two 412's.

Rhodes amps had to change their name to KSR amps recently, but Kyle Rhodes is still the man in charge over there, and I'm sure there are guys on this forum who have (or had with all the amp flippers here) a Rhodes modded Recto at some point...they would be the ones to ask. You can find videos on youtube probably...

the ubershall is stiff but i do like them but isn't that buy a certain year or model thing and i think they are a tad pricey

An Uberschall, stiff? Not really....

I believe the TJ is the tightest of the bunch, and I find my TJ to only be slightly tighter than my rectos. My TJ is a long ways off from UL or VH4 stiff.

I had an SLO recently, great amp...but I grabbed a VHT Deliverance 60 and it really is close to an SLO in the clarity, punch and articulation. Less than 1K. Won't ever say that it is as good as the SLO but it is pretty close in a lot of ways. One channel, no loop..but with some tweaking you can get modern to modded Marshall tones very easily. Best bang for the buck I've ever found. Paid 750 shipped for it..

Fryette for starters. There are many pitbull users that love their "metallica" capabilities in a sense.

Maybe something like a framus cobra or diezel herbert (SLO variations with metal oriented character and tight).

Splawn nitro allthough this doesn't sound like a mark?

I'm selling a German Framus Cobra. It's probably the closest thing to a recto and very tight.

It's a bit too spikey for my style. Standard tuned rock/metal. It's def tuned for modern drop/low tuned and 7 string metal.

Here is a clip

+1 i love this amp! It easily hangs with my rhodes mesa and a really loud jcm800 on a regular basis. Theres alot of tones in the two pre gain knobs. It can be tight and dry or liquid. Crazy amp to be so simple.

+1, a big one.

I'm a fryette fanboi so I agree with the fryette recommendation.

Fwiw I've only heard most mesas and only played a few.

IMO the Cl100 isn't very mesa ish.

But to my ears the Ultra Lead I just got with 6l6 sounds like the CL100 combine with the Mesa roar.
