Hello,
I am looking for a versatile pedal for playing metal. I play songs from Bon Jovi through to Slayer. Although I have a large range in music taste, it is mainly music from the '80's I like. I was thinking of the following:-
Suhr Riot
Blackstar LT Metal
Amptweaker tight rock
EVH 5150
Revv G3
Boss Metal Zone
Keeley Filaments
Diezel vh4

However I know there are many more. Anyone know of such a pedal or give any recommendations. I've got a budget of about $150.
Thanks

I'm an 80's hard rock to thrash guy as well, I go from Dokken to Metallica so I appreciate that versatility as well.

I like the 5150 OD for this. I get really good results stacking a Boss SD-1 in front as well, brings it even more alive. Eq pedal afterwards also can do good things, though the tone controls on the 5150 are pretty good.

I also like the Friedman BE-OD, which the non-deluxe version could fit your budget used. However, without the mid control I think it can be a little trickier than the 5150 to dial in without an eq pedal for the versatility you are looking for.

The Revv G pedals are seriously pretty damn good. I have the G2 and G4. The G2 makes a surprisingly good boost.

I love the DOD FX70 Metal X and the DOD FX70P Big Pig Fat Distortion.

What amp are you going into? I used to have a Friedman BE-OD pedal and was outstanding. The new one with the mid adjustment would be that much better. I have a Keeley Filaments pedal and it is great as well.

For $25 the Caline Englishman is a must have

The Joyo UZI is supposedly another contender in the budget range.

I used to have the VH4 and while it's a really good pedal - preamp I didn't like it for the 80s metal. If I were you, I'd try either the Revv or the Tightmetal

I havent tried most of those except the Metal Zone but I've tried a ton over the years and the BE-OD is still my favorite. I would increase your budget a little and get the Deluxe. Two channels and mid control.

I like the Blackstar HT Metal and Amptweaker TightMetal.

I think I like AMT's preamp pedals the best though

It really matters. Nothing wrong with all the pedal listed in this thread so far but if you are going to stick in front of a Marshall MG or Line 6 Spider, for example, you won't be doing yourself any favors.

I am a huge proponent of getting your base tone first. Focus on that and add pedals later. Doesn't have to be a tube amp either. Even though CC DeVille used solid state Crate amps - he said in one of those interviews that his base tone was Marshall tube amp.

OP, you started the Poison thread. Can you check out my last post there? That's what we need to get to the bottom of.
