Looking for Noise Gate advice - Preferably true bypass

Guys,

Last time I asked for advice on a wireless, you guys came through with flying colors. The line 6 50 is awesome! Now I need a good noise gate, not a rack needs to be a pedal. Would prefer true bypass as i don't want anything else in the chain that will suck tone. What do you suggest? This would be for gigging. Thanks. Tony

Not sure, never had one so not sure if I would need to for some reason. Just need to tame sound when not playing really.
 
ISP Decimator. The best gate I have ever heard. Completely transparent. :yes:
 
I like the MXR Smart Gate. The ISP is nice too.
 
i have a boss ns-2 and i think it works fine if you put your overdrive in the loop of the pedal. I would like to hear the isp though
 
ISP Decimator G-String. I just got an MXR NOISE CLAMP but haven't had any time to check it out yet.

Are you looking to silence noise from pedals or your amp's pre stage?
 
Are you sure you need one?

I just click off the gain channel for quiet parts. My experience with the ISP G-string was not positive, but I bought it to tame single coil hum on my strat, which was really the wrong application for it.
 
I have a brand new Boss NS2 for sale. Perfect, flawless, not a scratch on it

I had an ISP G String for a long time and tbh the NS2 is a better bang for the buck imo...and thats not a sales pitch ;)
 
ISP Decimator FOR SURE. 100% transparent and does exactly what it should.
 
yeah put the decimator in your effects loop works best there for me..
 
Sounds like the ISP might be the way to go just based on the number of people that have suggested it. I will check out the MXR as well and have had an NS2 which was ok but I don't think it was true bypass. A few more questions:

I want to tame the preamp so would the loop be the best place for this?
Is it worth the extra cash for the Gstring or is the regular ISP sufficient if I go with ISP?

Wassup!

I used to use an ISP pedal and/or the Pro rack. They are great.

My rule of thumb as to where to put them in the chain is dependant upon where the most noise is comming from. When I used to boost the crap out of my amp, Id put the NS before the amp because thats where most of the noise was being introduced into the setup. When using an amp that has high gain built in and a bit of a hiss I tend to use the gate in the loop.

The one thing that I can tell you though is that if you plan on using multiple tones or if you use your volume knob to roll down the gain you will want to run a rig where you can kick the NS in and out. Using a gate/NS can be tricky if you don't play full on distortion all the time.

These days I use a Digitech GSP1101 for all my effects and the gate built into the unit works really great. When I switch to a low gain setting the gate is completely out. Works killer!

I don't think Boss makes anything true bypass. They all have buffers. They are good buffers, but buffers no less.

If you want to tame the preamp, put the gate (Decimator) in the loop. That will silence the whole amp. It works great there.

If you run pedals out front and in the loop, get the G String. That way you can silence your boost or buzz up front, and run the loop into the other end and into your pedals in the loop. The question there is if you want to quiet the front half, or just do it all at once in the loop?
