hey guys ,im looking for a really good passive pickup that is similiar to the emg/seymour duncan...
ive been using emgs for the last 15 years and i love the tight punch and attack of them, but always found them a bit sterile for certain things...i bought a prs with the 5 way select and just dont see the actives working in that configuration,,,and i really love the sound that samhill gets with his duncan active , steer me in a good direction rig talk brothers

Bareknuckles are great. :) I'm planning on swapping my EMGs for bareknuckles soon.

Dimarzio Deactivator - Passive made to sound like an active, I've never played them but apparently they're good. :S

really never heard of that one,.i guess if i just switch out the selector i can get what i want ,but am i limiting myself

I have two sets of pickups that really spoiled me: Suhr Doug Aldrich and Bareknuckle Rebell Yell. These are both extremely high quality, very high output pickups.
I recently installed a SD custom custom that I had laying around, just to check and see how I feel about it. It isn't even a fair contest, these "boutique" pickups really are something else.
FWIW, I also have a set of EMG's (a 85/60 combination) in one of my guitars, both the Suhr and the BKPs have comparable or higher output, with much better and inspiring sound.

I have a friend who switched from EMG to the Duncan Alternative 8 and LOVES them.....

FWIW, I tried the Bare Knuckle pick-ups and hated them..... Just not my thing.

I'll second the Suhr Aldrich pickups. I too am a fan of organic passive high output pickups. The Aldrich's really smoke and they do well in a variety of guitars.

I was a hardcore EMG user for 10 years.
I always thought passive pickups were just weak.

Until I heard my Friends guitar with Suhr Aldrich pickups in it.
I swapped out imediately and never looked back!

from what ive heard im not so much a fan either ,im sure they sound great for some people , but not really what im looking for im very interested in trying the aldrich pickups mark day posted a vid of the suhr od100se and the punch and attack of his pickups is what im after

Bare Knuckles are on a league of their own I definatelly agree with all of the above statements. There aren't pickups like them... Enough said.

The Aldriches are great but I don't get how they're "similar to emgs"

if the Duncan actives are a quick swap with the EMG quick connect.

then i'd say trying the Duncan actives would be a no brainer.

go play some bass guitars with active EMG, Bartolini, and MEC. doesn't take long to figure out that people are doing active way better than EMG.

for passive Anderson H2+ and H3 kick all kinds of ass! throw in the Suhr Aldrich and that will cover most bases.

That's a characteristic of active pickups. Anyone who'll tell you you can get that sort of response out of a passive is deluded.

The only real choice if you want to maintain the tight punch and attack is to maintain a second guitar loaded with passives and switch back and forth as appropriate.

Alternatively, you can experiment with a guitar loaded with P90s. When it comes to punch and cut humbuckers don't even compare. Problem is that they're single coils and come with all the noise/hum problems associated with single coils.

My friend has a D-activator in the bridge of his PRS and it sounded great when I played it. Low noise, clear, tight and hot.

  Tried most of them, still have EMGs in my Spector.

i love my emgs ,but i dont know how they would work with the 5 way selector that prs uses on the custom 24. if it was just a simple plug em in and rock that would be great , the seymour is a curiosity to see how much diff they are than emgs

I'm a devout fan of BKP's... Tim is an awesome source of information and not only does he and his team create these most excellent pups, he can shred on the ax so core it'd put most of us to shame on this site. I only say this because when he specifies a pup to be this or that, gainier or rough, edgy or smooth, bluesy or crunch, he really KNOWS how to test drive 'em. It's not snake oil. I own ceramic Painkillers and a set of Riff Raff's. I've heard amazing things about the Rebel Yells, and Nailbombs. Fact is - there's not one set of pups BKP makes I'd be hesitant to recommend.

Peace,
V.

Pull that POS 5 way thing and put in a proper 3 way toggle :D
