I would take the Renegade. I had a Legacy and really liked it but just think that the Renegade would cover more ground and be easier to move around.

It's been a while since I've had a Legacy, so I have to rely on memory. They both have a nice clean channel and the gain channel is voiced similarly. However, the renegade's gain channel is a step above the Legacy in clarity and tone and more flexible. You can probably dial in a Renegade to sound very close to the Legacy, BUT you can dial out the Legacy from the Renegade and you can't dial out the Legacy from the Legacy. What do I mean by that? The Legacy has this low mid hump that I never could get dialed out and was the reason I got rid of it. The Renegade has a nice range of tones you can get.

On top of that, you have several nice options to dial in your tone on the Renegade. Tight and Deep switches, Bright and Normal switches, the el43/6l6 tube mixing, and density and presence controls. Makes it pretty flexible in finding your sound. Plus you have the volume boost function. A direct out. A nice FX loop. Am I missing anything? A lot of features on this amp.

I'd easily go with the Renegade. IMO, it's the Legacy but more and better. :)

Legacy. I tried the Renegade and I'm just not a big fan of the gain channel.

Legacy I. I'm enjoying reading this.... giving me a lot to think about.

never played either, but i'm real interested in the legacy II.

never played a legacy I, but from the clips I have heard, while good, it was pretty dark, and yes, I could hear that lower frequency, almost mud, that many owners said they experienced. Which makes me wonder how the legacy II fairs. I mean an extra channel, and reworked a bit. I am willing to bet it is an improvement.

I haven't heard the Legacy II in person other than on You Tube. I can't comment on the comparison between Legacy I and II.

Steve Vai plays through the Legacy  I think it is more of a copy of the Ecstasy and Egnater TOL 100 he used, blended together.

Carvin makes some great stuff and made in the USA. I had a Carvin Quad X for 17 years  and a 1000w fet power amp for 16 years. :D They are solid and durable.

Not even close! :D

Renegade... 65w.

I have some INSANE AMPS! Including a Cameron CCV, and Diezel HERBERT and a fully Modded JMP2203 w/ Mercury Trannies, and the Renegade w/ the TM212 Cab is just Awesome!

Highly Recomended!

Same here....although to be fair, I haven't played a Legacy.

I own a Diezel VH4, a Fender Princeton Reverb, and I've own a Mesa F-50 and a Dieze Einstein, and I'll tell you this the Renegade is AWESOME..... the clean channel (my fav. channel) is just incredible..... very very Fenderish and smooth. The OD channel is just GREAT........although I don't play hi-gain, I'm in the Bonamassaish gain % or even lower. This thing just kills!

As a fellow Renagade owner who has owned a Herbert, Fender Deluxe, Bruno, VHT, Splawn, Reinhardt, Soldano Dectone, Soultone, Roccaforte, Cameron mod, Mesa, Marshall, Carvin Legacy, Bad Cat, Bray, Elmwood, Fuchs, Friedman, Line 6, Fractal, Dr Z, Bogner XTC, Shiva, and Alchemist, AxeFX, etc ..... I can confirm the Renegade is a great amp that isn't just one of those amps you say it's a great amp for it's price.

Now I'm not saying the Renegade sounds better than all these amps.... I'm just saying the Renegade just doesn't hold it's own it gives many many amps that I have paid more twice the amount of a Renegade for a huge huge run for their money.

Looks like a Renegade is going to become part of the family!

You won't regret it bro... It's great for everything but Death Metal, and it can even do some of that... I'm buying a 2nd Head. It's easy to transport. and can't be beat for the Money.

This thing has the 87' Whitesnake / Sykes tone nailed .. I just love it! very versatile.

Let us know how you like it!

I liked the Renegade...found the Legacy kind of stiff and flat sounding, although it did well when set clean with the OD coming from a pedal.

I had an amp tech tell me that the internal components of Carvin amps were absolute garbage and that they clearly weren't designed with road reliability in mind. Anybody heard/seen anything similar?
