Losing interest in guitar...

I luv shooting and playing. Both are like therapy for me. Id hate to see what kind of screwed up mess or in trouble id be if I didn't play guitar. I just sold 3 guitars that I have had for over 22 years, kind of a relief and sad at the same time. One was a Guild Songbird acoustic Trying to sell my PRS "one of" but now I am down to my Blonde Beauty Les Paul, USA Deluxe Strat and looking at getting a Select Tele.

Been watching this show "Life" and the main character is changing his outlook on life after being awarded 50 million. He gets expensive cars and then tells himself "Im not attached to this car" My new out look just doesn't work to well with my Bogner and Mesa

Ya gotta do what you enjoy. I do construction which is like getting paid for your hobby.

I'm sure there are a lot of guys who have more important matters in their lives like family and careers who aren't "posing" but merely refocusing their attention towards more pressing matters. I for one am going to be applying to law school soon and will almost certainly not have the time to play as much guitar as I used to.

When I was going through four years of university, the only time my guitar came out of its case was at a gig. Thankfully, I was still gigging about once a month so I was able to somewhat maintain my chops.

Other than that 4 year "window" at school, it's been a passion since I was 13!

I only seem to play when I need to learn a new song or at rehearsal or when playing a show..... But, I am joining an Ozzy tribute so I've got a lot of songs to start learning or mostly relearning..... Might be just the kick in the ass I need.

I find this is a great way to re-ignite the fire. Get involved in a new project that requires you to sit down with the stereo and learn 30 new songs - it tends to really get you going again.

Aw dude, make sure to at least take a nice acoustic with ya... You have to have an outlet with studies - a healthy outlet at that. A lot of grad cats blow off steam by drinking or the like - screw that - sit back and chillax making some music on your down time. It's all about balance. Even in the sense of schooling, not just day to day and life and work matters. Music, specifically MAKING music with fingers, et al, is very healthy and stimulating for the brain. Get too much into a 'blinders on' routine of study, and although newer maps are created within the cortex, others are being neglected, and those 'others' are very supportive of the whole.

i haven't really played in a month.never been away from a guitar this long.i just started to dig into Logic and all the instruments inside the DAW.bought Native Instruments Damage and am trying to learn that.plus learning synths and sound waves and oscillators,envelopes,and anything that can morph audio.getting alot done actually.

i'm sure i'll hit the guitar hard again once my old bitch is here!

Life can be a real distraction if playing guitar is not from where your paycheck is derived. I find that I need to challenge myself and find ways to hold my self accountable for achieving new skills on the guitar whether it be a daily/weekly/monthly basis. Set a goal and drive to it and don't waver, complete it within time allocated.

It is so easy to get into the rut of playing the same stuff again and again and never really improving your chops with other musical genres. Try expanding your guitar technique out of your comfort zone, such as learning travis,atkins, reed style picking or play some other musical genres that don't require typical rock guitar idioms. You might find that it breathes creativity back and more enjoyment. As an example, I just started working on some beatles tunes that are arranged for solo guitar in a classical style. Maybe you are already an advanced player, don't know, but maybe it might help. Or you could go build a guitar or wire up an amp kit and mod it.

Forgot to mention, I shoot as well. Maybe go out and shoot up about 500 rounds worth of ammo and you might want to get back to playing (lol).

I understand fluctuating levels of intensity, but I never understood the guitarist who just flat out stops playing for years at a time. It makes me angry for some reason, I guess the people I knew who did that..I feel like that were posing and were really just interested in the glamour or something not guitar-pure. Or perhaps they move onto business and family interests, thereby giving up the dream. Probably angers me because it frightens me...I keep playing, albeit not monster gigging

From the time I started playing at the age of 12...for the next 33 years I played at least 30 minutes a day. From bedroom to studio to bars/concert hall...bands galore, I've been devoted to guitar...and the pursuit of getting better at all levels...from playing to writing. Since the last session I did about a year ago...I haven't played but maybe 30 minutes since. Have I missed it? Some. Enough to get my chops back together and pick it back up...no. My touring and session rigs are gone...down to 4 guitars, one amp, one cab and my trusty rack. I guess things finally got in the way. Age will do that to ya sometimes. It happens. Doesn't mean it will happen to everyone but to me it did. I'm trying to find my way back. Maybe I will. Maybe I won't.

I guess it all depends on where I end up living. If it's a house where I can really crank it, I'll bring the whole stack. If not, I'm not sure what I'll do. Either keep it at home for two years or sell it off.

i play in a band and pratice atleast 2 hours every couple days but the past couple years i just dont seem to get much better(picking hand and speed) or just get to the next level seem to be stuck at the same level for past 2 years dont get me wrong i have been playing for around 25 years and i am a ok guitarist can jam randy rhoads ect. but it dont come as easy as it should after playing for so long i guess i need to pratice more and longer
