He still got it IMHO. Playing's great ! The guy is 62, looks like a fit rock star (maybe ozempic but I don't care LOL) and is touring the world shredding like a madman !! What's not to like ? People are shitting on Zakk or Yngwie all the time and I really don't understand why. Tough crowd !! Certainly better than Tim Henson or random AI shit for my own taste. I'm old, beat me !!
Agree on Zakk and Yngwie, but I dig Tim Henson as well - I wouldn't compare him to random AI shit.

My bad, I wasn't comparing Henson to random AI shit. I was just listing modern fashionable musical things as opposed to old shit like Zakk and Yngwie. I prefer old shit myself because I'm old. Electric guitar is a thing of the past anyway.

What Yngwie needs is a Bob Rock to tell him, dude don't blow your load so early in the solo the way he did to Kirk on the black album.

Dude, you've already played that lick 4 times two minutes ago. Stop it, give me something else. Be creative!

CUT!!! Alight do it again but less sloppy.

That's what Yngwie truly needs!

Ironically, my favorite album of his is not his tunes - it's his cover album Inspiration. He does "In the dead of night" by UK, and his solo at ~3:00 is just cream of the crop for me. Such gorgeous phrasing.

That is such a killer cover indeed!

I love pretty much every album up to Blue Lightning and Parabellum. Parabellum was mixed horribly, just sounds bad, not the playing but the actual mix is awful and hard to listen to.

I think he still has some good songs that compare to the early days scattered through all the albums. I do wish he’d get a singer though.

Live, he just improvs everything, loosely plays the song on the record and gets repetitive.

This is one of the reasons why I will always be in awe of Yngwie. Intro is awesome and the main solo that starts at around 2:08 and is such a masterpiece in all respects. I don't know how any guitar player can dismiss this as anything but total sonic perfection.

Why not both?
Because Bonnet was known for some rough live performances during that era, whereas Yngwie was scaring the living shit outta every guitarist on the planet and leaving scorched earth in his wake.

Kirk’s leads never even achieved a semi, much less blew a load.

Yngwie could also be out of time and play a lot of random shit with no direction.

Look, I like Yngwie. I'm just saying it was far from all roses.

He was better when he was younger, but that can be said about almost anyone of his generation. He's still a hell of a player though.
