Hey guys...I was off work today and bored so I just got a Zoom Q3 and wanted to try it out..now if I only can get rid of the compression! Damn auto adjust..anyways heres my first try, nothing fancy just hit record and wanked whatever came in my head! LOL!!
The first clip is my Traditional Ice Tea with Doug Aldrich pups into my M60 with a Mesa 2X12 cab loaded with Black Shadow speakers...borrowed this cab to try from a friend...I'm not sure about it yet.
The second clip is my Les Paul Standard with WCR Godwoods in drop C tuning. Much the same..just mindless wanking. Now I just got to figure out this Q3 thing to get better sound out of it.

Sounds killer!

Hey how do the Aldrich's compare to the Godwoods? I am considering those two pickups for my Les Paul. I play hard stuff as well, but want them to be able to clean up well too.

The Godwoods are thicker and have more bite. They have less gain though but still plenty enough for metal. If you have good 500K pots they will clean up pretty good too.

Cool. How is the Godwood neck? I hear some complain about the Aldrich neck.

Well since I have the amp out and the Q3 I'll post a quick clip of both neck pickups. See for yourself...hang on, someone just showed up...damn. Give me a half hour!

Nice clips!
Thanks my man! I gotta learn how to use the Q3 now...and its so simple! lol!! The amp sounds so much better in the room..the camera drops and compresses the sound way too much.

Here ya go my man...a quick clip of the 2 neck pups totally dry.

Hey big thanks dude for doing that  . From what I hear in the recording it sounds like the Godwood is a little sweeter sounding, darker, and more bottom. On speed runs it seems a bit looser sounding with less note definition, almost like the tone knob was rolled down 1 or 2 notches. The Aldrich seems a bit more sterile sounding than the Godwood but has more definition, less bottom end (probably helps with note definition).

Thats a good observation! Its pretty well how I see it too. It has a lot to do with the mags...The Godwood has an A2 looser sweeter feel but for fast stuff not as tight as the Aldrich.

I'm still not sure about this cab though...anyone think its missing mids? It has Black Shadow speakers and this Mesa Enginering series of cabs are known for their scooped sound. I have the mids on the amp at 2:30 and an LP so there should be lots of mids.

Just the bs speakers. A boogie traditional cab has mids galore!
BTW I think your vids soung great!

For the q3, turn the bass cut on and dont leave it set to auto. When you are talking, set it to high. If you are playing at low volumes, set it to high, if at high volumes, set it to low...the auto setting changes as you play sometimes, and you get varying volume levels. I noticed, when I had mine, that you really had to talk loud, and I was straining my voice by the end of some videos, with the gain set to auto...

Also...that amp sounds killer man!!

Yeah I think you're right. I was hoping to like this cab but it doesn't have good speakers in it. Its also an open back cab. I need to find another 2X12 with better speakers to replace my 4X12's for the smaller gigs. Hmmm...

Thanks man. Well i did another quick one with the Godwoods in drop C with the mike switch on low and with the bass cut on but now I can't hear my self talk! LOL! I see the amp isn't loud enough...I gotta crank the fucker now! But I can hear that it doesn't compress and would sound much better only if I turned the amp up.

Oh yeah, I changed the cab...
