I'm thinkinig a stock Boss SD-1? I think that even these days his tone is boosted Marshalls.

His old website had the following info.

Live Rigs
Breaking the Chains: BOSS OD-1 - Randall amps
Tooth and Nail: BOSS GE-7 - Randall and Laney
Under Lock and Key: Ibanez TS808 - Marshall
Back for the Attack: TS808 - Various amps.

Studio
Under Lock and Key: GE7 or TS808
Back for the Attack: TS808
Wicked Sensation: TS808
Lynch Mob: TS808

Those were the notable items. I know he has used a DS-1 at times as well.

I LOVE using a TS-808 or a SD-1 with my JCM800. Either one is great.

I remember him saying he boosted one song on one old record using an old tape player/recorder!?!? WTF?  I don't know if he actually did this or if it was just another example of his sense of humor.

I read that too, I also read Blackmore also used a preamp from an old tape player or record player, something like that.

I used to do this with an old reel to reel.

Somebody find out what he was using and send it to George so he can get back to playing and not fighting every new amp he has lately.

Yes. I saw a vid of him recently playing a Telecaster through some clean amp and he sounded terrible. He was fighting it so badly.

There's no reason to have to fight against an amp these days.

I believe he used an old fostex or something on "Under Lock and Key" and cranked the levels. They used to get compressed sounding.

TS-808 eh? I'm a pedal noob. I'll have to check them out.

Thanks boys.

That tone is sick, but there is a lot more going on than a SD-1 into a Marshall.

Here it is dude. SD-1 into the famous purple Marshall. You can see the pedal on the floor right when he starts playing.

I love this tone, his playing, everything. This is George Lynch letting it buck x4.

That's what I should have titled the thread: What did he boost the famous purple plexi. I thought it was an SD-1.

Thanks man

Agreed, he is going through a wall of processors but I believe the core tone is plexi and sd-1 to soften it up and nail the front end.

That solid maple guitar is also part of that tone.

That's what I was curious about. No doubt he was some studio sauce.
