Yeah, he's real lyrical LOL IMO every solo is some practice technique he stuck into a song, and it sounds like it. The best 70's guys could IMPROVISE. Something George forgot to incorporate into his style. He had his day. Unfortunately, the 80's are over. Never to return as most was dogshit. Will never span generations and have the longevity of 60's and 70's music.

George, who basically has nothing left to say on guitar, just rehashes the same old shit, looking like an old man trying to be 25 again. Like when Ali fought his sparring partner Larry Holmes and nearly got killed. Playing 80's material in small bars like a washed up chump.

I dont know...I kind of understand your point..however, the bar was raised in the eighties as far as technique and not playing the same pentatonic licks over a 30 minute jam...Which will bore even the most patient audience member to tears after awhile.

Exactly ,someone with a talk box saying ..Do you feel like I do for 5 minutes is hardly a lesson in not noodling
and IMPROVISING is in general umm noodling .If you have no structure and no plan that noodling . not saying it does not sound.great sometimes but still its a jam
15 minutes of Freebird 3 guys playing pentatonics is not outstanding creativity IMO

like It of not guys like Reb Beach ,Vito Bratta and Lynch have way more technique ,and knowledge of the fretboard IMO than most of the 70s players
But the best part about conversations like this there is no right answer ,I might think Lynch is a virtuoso ,,some might think he's a hack .to each their own

Your right.....30 years later....all my friends and fellow musicians I talk to still listen to them and do band jams to the 80's metal to this day.
But apparently they had zero impact on guitarists.
Gonna go listen to some hendrix.

I love Kiss....the Who...Zepplin....as much as the 80's stuff. I dont try to pit one against the other. But if you like the 70's stuff....great!

I dont care for alot the 90's music.....but I dont sit there and bash it up against the 80's stuff.
Its a whole different catalog of music. Again....apples and oranges. Like what you like....dont like what you dont.
But to keep saying one gen of music is better then the other is fucking ridiculous.

I think Lynch's style has stood the test of time. Kind of like EVH, when you hear him you know exactly who it is, he just has his own thing going on. His solos are flowing and technically tasteful imo. I dont't feel like his style is dated at all, I think it can conform with modern music just fine. And I still don't understand how anyone could bash on the guy or say he's a washed up hasbeen Those kind of comments are idiotic if you ask me

Reading thru threads like this make me laugh. As fellow guitar players/musicians I think it's common etiquette to show respect...especially to someone who has written numerous hits and sold millions of records. Not to mention the guy is like 60 and freakin tearing that shit up still. C'mon people!

Nah, I disagree. Considering the fact the I have been following George since 85 and also the fact That I have bought the albums, tapes, cds, dvds, concert tickets, guitars, amps, pickups, pedals, tab books, magazines with his name on it since day one should allow me to voice a little disappointment when I dont like something he does. Oh yeah, remember the cover of him on Guitar World from 88?(the one with duel covers, Lych/Rush) I read that article hundreds of times like i was reading scripture. Wouldnt you know it, I searched for the exact same mag almost 25+ years later and bought it on ebay for the sum of $19! So yeah, im a fan..but I can voice disappointment when i dont like something. I would hardly call that bashing. Nobody thinks twice to boo a quarterback when he throws an interception in a big game. The quarterback could care less...George could care less. We are all just music fans having a discussion like you would at a sports bar...not a big deal at all.

I had just as much fun as everyone else in the 80's... I think? They use to say; "If you remember the 70's, you weren't there..." I say that if you remember the 80's, you most definitely were not there! As cheesy as the apparel and music was at the time, it was one hell of a party!

I figured-out what it is I don't like about George's playing... It's his perpetual use of false (pinch) harmonics. I'd like to hear him play with less preamp gain, and without the pinch harmonics. His hand-vibrato is masterful!

Yeah, some of those instructional vids he did back in the day...some were a wash of preamp gain and way too much delay and echo. I could never figure out what he doing because of how fast he was playing with all that echo going.

I've been a big Lynch fan since the '80's, and I'm glad he's still doing his thing, but this video, imo he's had much better days! He's been pretty hit and miss for quite some time now.

George was on-fire in those days! I personally found weight lifting to be a guitar players worst enemy. Maybe that's why George doesn't play like he use to? Can't say it's due to age... Gary Moore was tearing it up as good as ever before he passed away.

I disagree...I think it was more of guys from that era feeling like they had to reinvent themselves to stay relevant once their heyday was coming to an end...the new crowd they were trying to reach werent interested..while the old crowd like myself wondered why they changed so much and were disappointed..alot of players from this era fell into this situation..and dont give me the whole artist growth thing..alot of these guys completely changed everything to try to save their career..sad but true. Like i said at the beginning of this thread, bring back more of Mr. Scary from 1988 and try to forget the mediocre output that he released in the last 20 yrs. Nobody wants Angus to reinvent his songwriting, tone, or style. Maybe a bad example, but try to see my point. Does anyone want Yngwie to change and put out an indie rock or grunge album? Glad he didnt...Some of these guys felt they had to just to keep working.
