I'm ready to move on from the V30's in my 2x12. You guys who've had both the Lynchbacks and the Creamback 65's, how do you like them? Which do you prefer and why? Since I'm measuring them against the V30, how do they compare to it? Which one cuts better live or in a band setting? My amp is a Soldano SLO. Thanks for any feedback.

I've never used the Lynchbacks, but I have two Creamback 65's I've used in a 2x12 and paired it up with some V30's... I find the V30's to be a bit bright in the upper mids, but not spiky like the G12T-75's. The Creambacks are 'rich' sounding to my ears, and very smooth compared to the V30's, but paired very well with them. I'm predominantly an Eminence guy, but I did like my Creambacks. Deep, smooth, rich... doesn't 'cut' like the V30's.

Hope that is helpful!

I put Lynchbacks in my Mesa cab and I dig them. Nice change from v30s. Mids are still there but not nasally, smooth but cutting highs, and round on the bottom end. Using it with my EVH 5150 III Stealth and it's an awesome match.

I like the sound of that. Do they cut well in a band setting? I think I'm hung up on this point because it's the thing I dig most about V30's...cutting through the mix.

Where's RichEddie, or Papersoul, or one of his other 1,000 usernames? :D

I'm actually a pair of Lynchbacks in a Wizard 2x12. I seriously dig them. A little scooped in the midrange, nice smooth top and bottom end. I really like them with anything Fortin. I'm currently borrowing a friend's Stealth and is great as well.

I thought more guys around these parts had tried these speakers out.

I have a quad of Lynchbacks that replaced the V30s in my Egnater cab. Can't say a lot about my perception of their sound other than they sound badass with Marshall style amps. Love it with my DSL, Splawn, Cornford MK50H . . . all great with those speakers. Smoother mids than V30s but a bigger, almost looser bottom end. High end sizzle from chords ring through very well.

I like the sound of that, too. The SLO's got a lot of high-end sizzle, and I don't want a speaker that's going to dull it in any way.

Funny you say that, same reason I like v30s. Cut through like a knife. I have not used the cab yet in a live setting but we got a gig opening for Symphony X and Overkill coming up, will know then.

I have a pair in a Bogner OS 2X12 and have yet use them other than to make sure they worked.

Will try soon and give a report.

When I'm playing through my 2x12 with Chinese V30's (very broken-in) at home by myself, I really dislike them with the SLO. Both the amp and the speakers excentuate the upper mids, so it seems I'm overloading that frequency. But when I jam with a band, they just slice through the mix without having to really pump the volume on the SLO. My other concern with switching to either the Lynchbacks or the CB 65's is the difference in db's between them. LB's and CB's are 97db. V30's are 100db. The 100db sensitivity is part of what makes the slice, right? Or am I overthinking this point? I'm also considering snagging some Mesa V30's because they're smoother in those upper mid frequencies than the Chinese versions.

Awesome. Thanks man!

I prefer the Lynchbacks. They sound less bluesy and more badass, ie they have a more prevalent low end and not as prevalent of a midrange to my ear. They excel for anything Marshall/modded Marshall and handle gain well. Unless you are playing blues I would definitely go Lynchbacks.

PS. I compared them side by side

Best-

The first thing I would ask is why are you moving on from V30s seeing as cutting though a live mix is your primary concern? Change for the sake of change is typically a losing proposition. What goal do you have in mind that has led you to seek out other speakers?

You make a good point. What you're saying is the reason I'm trying to gather as much information as I can before I drop some coin on some new speakers. Then again, I won't know if I prefer different speakers until I actually try them in a live situation.

Bottom line - I want cut, and I want less harshness in the upper-mids.

Thanks man. Seems like a lot of love for Lynchbacks around here.
