MAB makes YJM look like a fool..

I think they're both fools, YJM has some of my respect, out of all the 'Virtuoso' guitarrists out there, my favourite is Andy Timmons because he writes great songs aswell as being a great player. I can't listen to Rusty Cooly or other shred guitarrists for more than about a minute.

Guthrie slays too.

Yngwie can't come close to this. Then again he doesn't have the worst hair of all time like MAB :D What the hell is that guy thinking? I'm not a fan of either one but I'd say MAB definitely plays faster and cleaner than YJM. Anyone who's seen the Doug Marks Speed Kills with MAB can see that. On the other hand we all know that speed doesn't translate into making a song that sounds good, which neither one of them do to me :aww: .

I don't care how fast he is.. that was absolutely terrible. I'd actually rather hear Kerry King do a solo... and that's saying something.

Seriously, Neoclassical is the house that YJM built
Agreed, but he built it in Uli's yard ;)
Theres absolutely no doubt as to where he got his inspiration Bro, Ill never deny that. Its funny how so many people say that he got it all from Blackmore when its so obvious that you can hear UJR in spades throughout...

I wish I could play 1/10 as good as either of these 2 wicked guitarists.

When I'm in practice I think I'm about 1/10 as good as either of them. It could be 1/12 but who's counting?

I agree, that was pretty bad. there was a time when I could almost play as fast and as clean as MAB but the "coolness" of that wore off pretty fast because in the end, its just not musical. MAB has written some nice stuff but this wasnt one of them and I also think that this was supposed to be intentionally over the top and stupid...

Totally correct about Uli and his playing style. I think YJM got more of his stage presence from Blackmore than his playing.

YJM basically started the whole Neoclassical thing so props be to him as an originator of a style......

Blackmore was doing this in the '70s, if not earlier. Just sayin'

..and enough on MAB's hair already. It's just like mine. what? don't you know, mullets are back? :)

If MAB is Michael Angelo, all I have to say is way back in the day I took lessons with Paul, guitar teched for Malmsteen and did some shows opening for Michael Angelo, nobody touched Malmsteen. I love Paul but Malmsteen was definitive sounding. When Ygnwie came out he leveled the world of guitar and was the dude that toppled Eddie.

Spot on James. Yngwie took rock guitar to a quantum leap post Eddie and did it with Integrity without any Compromise...Yngwie is a perfect example of an American success story. He comes over to States from Sweden with a pair of jeans, a strat and vision/attitiude in 83'. He basically made Mike Varney and Shrapnel Records and started that whole scene. Wrote the entire Alcatrazz music from no parole less than a two week period since they had NO songs , then gets signed on Polydor to release his first solo album at the age of 20 years midst that tour in Japan 84. the rest is history and became a very wealthy and successful musician while all his imitators are not so. The man has balls and must have a wrote a good song or in betweeen all those millions of records sold worldwide.

Yeah, CC is in a whole 'nuther dimension of songwriting... :hys:

Lets just say there are a lot of boys/girls that lost their V in the backseat to a poison song on the radio.

Yngwie uprooted and pushed guitarists in another direction, Eddie did a good job of toppling himself.

My point is that "toppling" implies that Eddie became irelevant when Yngwie came along. That couldn't be further from the truth. He continued to be a very successful writer/guitarist/musician, who was always acclaimed for his playing until his chemicals caught up with him. Neither Yngwie, nor anyone else "toppled" him...

The only indisputable fact is that Yngwie had greater technical skills in some facets of guitar playing. Anything else is just personal preference...

No argument there and if that is the measure of song writing CC > Yngwie

Yes, they did. I saw Vai play Eruption with one hand.
I saw Vai play with himself with one hand. Jealous?

Point taken on both comments. Damn you Steve, quit being rational and let us have some fun here!! I thought the point of this Thread was to topple and dismantle the OP?
