I've seen MAB at a clinic recently, and he seemed like a really nice and passionate guy. Above all he emphasized the idea of being original, and trying to find your own voice. I'm not a fan at all, but the guy rocked, and really got his message through.

Yngwie's Ballads for one are full of melody/harmony and great chord progressions...i don't think he writes as melodic as he did in the early years though or phrases, but to say he can't write a song to save his life, you've obviously not listening to the right stuff and just have your own defnition of what "song" translates to.

I'll give you Far Beyond the Sun but that's as far as I'm willing to budge . I find his playing really, really, really over-bearing, and his songwriting skills just severely lacking. Oh and I hate the way he plays over the singer at every opportunity. His pieces don't constitute "songs" to me.

Back in the day watching Yngwie was amazing. It was effortless, great vibrato, great feel and full on shred all while flossing his teeth. I know his stuff got repetitive, but when he was on which was 99% of the time back then he was amazing to watch. Batio on the other hand has never been fun for me to watch, things do not just flow with him like Yngwie. And Batio is the only reason Aqua Net is still in business to this day!!

I thought the album Yngwie did with Joe Lynn Turner was great. It was loaded with good songs, Crystal Ball, Riot In The Dungeons, Deja vu. Too bad those 2 couldn't make some more albums. Album after album though, it sounds like Yngwie is rehashing material.

This is so true regarding the Joe Lynn Tuner stuff and then the rehashing stuff. The Seventh Sign has some cool stuff, but you can hear so many of his trademark licks on there from back in the day. He still rules up there for me, I remember when he came out and I got his black LP out of a guitar world magazine, it changed the way I looked at guitar and things were never the same for me. LOL

That 3rd clip from Trilogy..Crying..was always one of my favourites! And the tone he had back then was so sweet!
