This is accurate Speed.
Senseless, like the rest, but

Just another reason why I like Yngwie, he has speed but it was not his only thing back in the day to me. Yes he was a shredder, actually the reason shredding started. But his phrasing was amazing, his blues ability is very good, his vibrato as posted earlier was to die for and he could be getting a blow job from Batio and still shred 32nd notes while eating some krispy cremes all while watching oprah talk to dr phil.

If MAB is Michael Angelo, all I have to say is way back in the day I took lessons with Paul, guitar teched for Malmsteen and did some shows opening for Michael Angelo, nobody touched Malmsteen. I love Paul but Malmsteen was definitive sounding. When Ygnwie came out he leveled the world of guitar and was the dude that toppled Eddie.

Neither of them can write a song to save their life, ergo, there is no discussion to be had on this subject.

Yngwie's Ballads for one are full of melody/harmony and great chord progressions...i don't think he writes as melodic as he did in the early years though or phrases, but to say he can't write a song to save his life, you've obviously not listening to the right stuff and just have your own defnition of what "song" translates to.

here's a few cuts i dig on..

One of Yngwie's finest moments. The solo gives me chills.

OMG who gives a fuck who gives a shit?

What a sorry dude. He's all goth'ed out at this extreme gay nerd speed convention.

I for one have never found anything I like at all about MAB, thankfully everyone has their own tastes and opinions and is free to listening to whatever they please :)

To me if your going to attempt to compare them, this video blows anything I've ever heard from MAB away both musically and in technical proficiency.

As much as I've not enjoyed YJM's playing in the past, and his tone and playing at the start of this video, I enjoyed it very much, thanks. :)

Bullseye. History will be kind to Yngwie. In another lifetime they will speak of the Ying. MAB is forgettable. He will not be remembered for contributing substantial material to the guitar/music world. He has time to prove me wrong of course, but I kinda doubt it...

WOW! I didn't think that there were so many yahoo rookies here anymore.

Didn't mean to shit in your Cheerios!!! Haha - wanks.

Now go and grab your shine boxes, get to work.

The whole "my fav guitar player can beat your fav guitar player" crap just drips with fan boy douche baggery......

Time tested, far from cliche and no bad hair.
:2thumbsup: So true...

But having to chime in here, I think Malmsteen, albeit a bit froo-froo and over-the-top in his own personal ways, is an absolutely amazing guitar virtuoso. I personally think he wipes the floor with Batio, but that's just me. At the end of the day they're both players who'd crush any of us on a bad day, so hats off to them for being 2 players we're sitting here mincing over. I wish I could play 1/10 as good as either of these 2 wicked guitarists. And maybe when I hit 70, have 1/10 as much hair as either of these fellas (still okay in that department for now, thankfully).

Peace,
V.

 YJM has written some epic tunes and MAB has written a few decent ones himself. The major problem that I have with MAB is that he is so whitebread; not much soul to speak of in his playing. In the end, YJM is just too badass and in a class all his own IMO

Spot on James. Yngwie took rock guitar to a quantum leap post Eddie and did it with Integrity without any Compromise...Yngwie is a perfect example of an American success story. He comes over to States from Sweden with a pair of jeans, a strat and vision/attitiude in 83'. He basically made Mike Varney and Shrapnel Records and started that whole scene. Wrote the entire Alcatrazz music from no parole less than a two week period since they had NO songs , then gets signed on Polydor to release his first solo album at the age of 20 years midst that tour in Japan 84. the rest is history and became a very wealthy and successful musician while all his imitators are not so. The man has balls and must have a wrote a good song or in betweeen all those millions of records sold worldwide.

Seriously, Neoclassical is the house that YJM built and no one does it better, not even close. Hes got arguably the best vibrato in the business and he owns his style. Nuff said..
