Making my professional performance debut this weekend, at 49.

Getting paid for a gig makes it professional, right? Lol.


I joined a band about 7 weeks ago. Their second guitar player quit just before Covid. The band leader and I have known each other for a few years and he really wanted me to join the band. I himmed and hawed about it for quite a while, doubting my abilities to be able to hang with an established gigging band.


About 8 weeks ago they auditioned 5 players for a rhythm position , me being one of them. Long story, short they picked me. So the last 8 weeks I have been learning all of the songs in their set list. We have been practicing a lot!! I have been playing a lot at home too!!! I’ve played more guitar in the past 8 weeks than I’ve played in the past year, it seems like.


We have 4 shows scheduled for July already!!! My first live performance ever will be July 4. We are playing at a festival in a small town near Kalamazoo, opening up for their annual fireworks display. 3, 1 hour sets, 39 songs!!!!

Needless to say, I’m excited and nervous. The band chemistry is really good and we are having a lot of fun, so that helps a lot!!!

Kick Ass! I'm just coming out of "learn a shit ton of material boot camp" too with a new band... We're also playing on the on the waterfront at Pier 12 in Astoria, OR. Looks like we're all having fun!

You guys play originals? covers ? or ??? Post your set list, I'm always curious what other bands are doing.

Sure does. No different than paying Mailman to pole dance at my birthday party. He’s a professional.

Best of luck to you BRENTrocks. In my cover band we do a few of the same songs. That syncopated breakdown before the solo in You're No Good gets me every time. Enjoy, have fun, and keep on rockin'!
