Mako Mak4 Preamp.....

Ever since I wanted a Mak 2 and got shafted on the deal, I've been seriously hoping to get one, but this might be the next best thing! I can buy back my old 2150 and score this bastard, then use it along with the Meathead! fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
 
I want one pretty bad. I'm going to wait until they are available. If the price isn't going up that much and shipping to Europe is alright I might get one. Don't know what poweramp I want with it though. Hell, I might just feed it into my 6505 poweramp. But since I'd like to run it in stereo with my 6505 I can get a second hand Carvin TS100 for cheap or something. This thing looks really nice, I want a nice clean channel and also a boosted pissed-off Marshall type channel. This thing looks to be right up my alley.
 
He's got European retailers, AFAIK, he posted something on facebook about one of them trying to order 25 of them for the intro price. :lol: :LOL:

Damn that thing is massive. I wont even buy a Mesa Quad because they are 3 spaces :lol: :LOL:

Does it do MIDI switching and such?

not yet, I have to figure out where my loot situation will be after bills/debts at the end of this month. If not this month though, I'm definitely ordering one at the end of next month. I'm planning on running it thru the Herbert power section for now, that or the SE tube driver channel. The VHT poweramp will be in a couple months hopefully. How are you diggin the 2/50/2 btw? I'm thinking of that or saving for the 2150 if I can find one. I've heard the 2150 can be painfully dry though, and I like a tiny bit of sag in my poweramp. Does the 2/50/2 have the punch and lowend girth to keep up with the 100 watters?

oh btw, don't know how close you are to a retube for anything, but Tubedepot has a deal on factory 2nd SED Winged =C= EL34 and 6550, I picked up a crapload to retube the Herbert, SE, and Wizard. Looking forward to hearing the Herbert with 6550. :rock:

I like the 2/50/2 - though I think It'd be better at 100W. But I don't really need to crank it up that loud too often. I don't thing the depth control gives it the thundering low-end that the Herbert has, but it does alright.

I'm actually thinking of getting a 2/90/2 as well. I'm kicking myself because there were several used ones up for sale not long ago while I was looking for a 2/50/2. Now there are none.

I'll check out tube depot. Thanks. Since I sold off most of my amps, I don't need to stock up on tubes like you. lol.

ahh, but you still have that Herbert I see! I dunno if mine is screwed up or what, but that amp seems to eat tubes faster than any amp I've owned. Preamp and powertubes. Seems like everytime it starts sounding a little dull to me, a tube swap brings her back to life. She sounds so good with fresh tubes, I just can't be retubing the whole amp every 6 months.

Thanks for the info on the 2/50/2, I have a friend that was selling one at a good price I was going to pick up, but that was my main fear going in. I just always seem to prefer the bigger depth and girth of the 100W+ powersections. Think I'll be waiting for the 2/90 or 2150. :thumbsup:

Guess it depends when the Mako monoblock will be coming too. :rock:

You would probably be the man to ask about poweramps. What's your favorite for a tight big thumpy lowend? I want to try a VHT badly, but I'm a little worried it will be too dry for me. I like a tiny bit of sag. Any recommendations? I see you've also used those huge Rivera poweramps. Badass?

Actually, Yes, the Riveras have a little more sag. I attribute a lot of this to the fact that 6550's are dry and tight as hell in ANY amp.

$850 shippped is the pre-order and intro price. Then I think they will go up to around $1k.
