Hey guys I just got my MAK4 & holy shitballs, I'm blown away

I thought this thing would be quite cool, given Ventura's posts, but he's not kidding when he says this thing is unreal.
I've only spent about an hour with it but I can usually tell very quickly wheather or not I like something & so far I'm absolutely LOVING it :D

I'm running the MAK4 with a VHT 2/50/2 poweramp (thanks Keith) in stereo thru a VHT D2x12 & a Guytron 2x12 with Bigtone speakers & it sounds massive

Most importantly, I must take this opportunity to thank Andrew, not only for a great product but for his 1st class customer service. Mine is a 230V version & there was a bit of delay with his suppliers getting the 230V transformers right.
He kept me up to speed at all times & came thru BIG time

If anyone is thinking of getting one, I highly recommend it.

More to come after I spent a bit more time with it :D

Ditto. I have the same set set up except the cabs. Loving it.

I just hooked my MAK4 up using my wife's bass amp as a power amp...It sounds great!!!! This pre has three great distinct dirty channels, and a good clean channel. What more can you want in a preamp!!??!! I have had mine for about 3 months, and it keeps blowing me away!!!

Now Andrew needs to release his power amp before I end up buying a VHT as well.

glad you are liking it...Welcome to the MAK4 brotherhood

I hear there is one for sale in the gear classifieds forum :) *cough cough*

FWIW, I loved the mak4 through the 2/50/2....absolutely amazing.

I'd love to try a Mak 4 through the power section of my Meathead!!!! hahahahaha

I wonder how it'd sound through my Recto 2:100...hmmmmm........

My Mako is sounding awesome through my Diezel Herbert with a 6550/EL34 mix fwiw... my favourite heavy rig ever! I love that you can switch between 3 awesome overdriven channels depending on which one suits the part best!

This one is a keeper for me!

The secret is that the crunch channel slays. I took it to band practice playing 70's through current covers and I swear I spent 80% of the time on the crunch channel. It kills. Now my power amp is on the fritz so I'm without my rig until I can get it fixed :(

Yep same here, the Crunch channel is the shit! I switch to Dorado for fast hardcore riffs, and to Makoplex for leads and higher chording, or old school riffing...but the rest of the time, meat-and-potatos crunch riffing, the Crunch channel rules...it has this juicy midrange grind that seems so present, and jumps out of the mix in a way others haven't. It's like an all in one Adam Jones channel! I actually run the gain dimed on it and it's perfect , I even have to scoop it slightly cause it has so much mids (but not in a bloated weird mesa way). I'd love to A/B it against a VH4 Ch3!

Andrew should really up the spotlight on this channel, no wonder it's becoming so popular here...can't say enough good things about it really. :)

I used to have a Mako Custom 100. The crunch channel was fantastic and by far the best channel of the entire amp.

I can attest to that, what a killer combination. The Herbert poweramp is a great fit for that preamp IMO. Besides the sound quality, having it on the switchable loop is like adding another channel of Mak4 goodness to the Herbert. Throw in midi control, and you have 7 channels of awesome.

Just out of interest Erock, what power tube type/make are you running in the Herbert?

Gassy and bloated.... :aww:

Your condition should clear up in 10-12 weeks by clicking this link.....

Too long. I usually operate in the "here and now".

Steve

then check the classifieds. Dimebag had one on there. I guess it is still there. Always glad to assist with gas relief :D

Put it this way, if Andrew went retail with this preamp, and the price was effectively $2000 or $2400, people would be talking about it like it was the next revelation in sonic mayhem. It's because it's priced 'reasonably' well that people think it's low grade. Horseshit - this preamp is taking over my big rigs, and for those of you who know what I own, that means the big ones, expensive ones, boutique ones, etc. Yes, this preamp is "my" sound, and it kicks all kinds of ass.

The Crunch channel is simply ridiculous.

But for those who wanna slay outside of this channel, Makoplex with mids at 3 o'clock, treble at 9 o'clock, gain at 1 o'clock - look-the-f*ck-out!!!!

It'll wipe the floor with a lot of modded wannabe plexis, that's for sure :D

Peace,
V.
