Any vocalist that played / recorded with Yngwie didn't have the same impact on singing that YJM had on guitar playing. No one was playing like that when he came here in Steeler as a hired gun, then Alcatrazz and then his solo stuff. The guy had a profound impact on guitar playing like Hendrix, Van Halen and Rhoads before him and honestly imho there is a bunch of great players since Yngwie but nothing is considered a game changer in that regard.

I'm a big Yngwie fan up to Trilogy, I really dug the stuff he did with symphony orchestra. I'm more into instrumental music anyway but I really like Jeff Scott Soto with Yngwie.

I saw Jeff Scott Soto with Journey and he blew me away - had no idea he was capable of singing that stuff so well. He didn't sound exactly like Steve Perry, but it was awesome in it's own right.

Totally agree with this as well. His playing and style was so developed for his age it was really remarkable actually. I'm the same age as Yngwie and alot of us actually grew up listening to the same players that influenced YJM (Blackmore, DiMeola, Uli Roth, etc). But how he put it all together with his own "voice" was something else. Not saying this gives you the right to be a dick or have a big ego BTW but we have to take it in context.

As far as him singing I haven't heard him so I can't say - BUT I just remember listening to Uli Roth sing back in the day and thinking WTF (dude, you are in a band with one of the best rock vocalists of all time (Klaus Meine) and YOU are trying to sing? but anyway it somehow reminds me of the same thing....

Collaboration is good (I realize vocalists can be difficult animals to work with ) . Yngwie should realize some of his best songs were co-written with the amazing vocalists that he's worked with over the years. Its obvious that on certain later albums Yngwie wrote all the parts and the singers were just hired guns.

I heard him sing on the current tour and as long as there are screaming guitars behind him, it sounds fine to me.

Also, the keyboard and bass players sing as well and both have strong voices.

He's on the fringe now, his time has passed - the few people who still care go to hear him rip - doesn't matter who is standing up there with him.

Bottom line is Yngwie has survived past his "time" where most of the others around at the time didn't. He still makes very good $$ doing his thing so why change just because some people think you need to evolve. At least he is out there doing his shit. Look at Eddie VH ... done 1 album in nearly 20yrs. Maybe eddie should become the singer in Van Halen so his output could increase

Yeah, Yngwie survived, but EVH can do whatever the hell he wants and at this point that seems to be playing golf, fucking around in the studio with his son and touring every 4-5 years. EVH could call up Dave or Sammy tomorrow and sell out every Amphitheatre in the USA with million dollar grosses every night. Yngwie plays to 300-500 people for pocket change. Neither of them make any money from new material at this point because their time is over. I think at their ages, I'll take Eddie's life.

As far as recorded output, I think the main reasons for 1 album in the last twenty years from EVH were a massive drug problem and some health issues. Drugs ruined his relationships with the singers (whether he'd admit that or not) and he made some bad choices because of drugs. I'd say he knows now from the last album that all anyone wants from VH is the old shit live (whether Sammy or Dave) and there is zero money to be made on albums by the band, so why bother putting in all the effort? He can (if he chooses) go play to 15K people a night giving them what they want without an album and grab some cash if he needs it. If he wants to record, he can screw around in his studio all he wants.

oh yeah totally agree. Just think its sad that if he still has the creative juices that no one gets to hear them. I look at jake e lee who was done with music until someone got to him and it looks to have ignited the flame again and he released what I think is a great album and is now working I what I think will be as good of an album as he has even done (hopefully). Would be nice to see Eddie refreshed

I have every Yngwie album all the way up to his latest. Love them all. My biggest influence by far. I never cared for the drama of the inter-personality cat fighting of any bands or whatever political view they had or whatever else. Just the tunes. Always thought Yngwie just says whatever the hell is on the top of his head at that moment and shrugged, so what. Just keep makin that guitar sing like a violin...

Him singing is a joke, as is having 90 Marshall stacks when a half stack will do. He never grew musically. it's the same shtick he's done for decades.

As mentioned, there are many very successful artists who've done the same thing for decades who are still doing well, when others fell by the wayside. ACDC, Maiden, Priest, etc, etc.

I was five feet from Yngwie in Vegas for the whole night in early June and he's not fat anymore. Yes, he's still YNGWIE F#CKING MALMSTEEN though. That's kind of his thing.

I saw him in June here in Dallas TX...he hasn't been fat for a while now. I think when he kicked coke he gained a lot of weight but he's in shape. He STILL puts on a great show and plays effortless, he's a true virtuoso in my book. I haven't seen him since the Rising Force tour before Marching Out was released, they played a few tracks off that which was cool and unexpected. I was blown away by Yngwie but equally impressed with JSS voice live too.
