With all this modded Marshall talk combined with watching an old Toto video with Lukather using Marshall MkII's, I decided to pull out my Egnater Seminar head that I built and modded. I actually totally forgot about this amp..lol. It was in a room collecting dust.

I'm playing Toto's "Goodbye Elenore" solo. I could never figure this out and play it before. So I decided to give it a real effort this week. I did a tutorial on it at the end of the video in case anyone has Lukather love. He has serious great taste and speed.

I'm miking the amp with a 57 and E609 into my Duet and Logic Pro9. I used the original tune as a backing track but you should be able to distinguish my guitar because it is cranked in the mix compared to the backing track.

I haven't tried this amp since I put in Aldrich passives and acquired the Koko Boost. I wish you guys could try out my rig!!!! It seems that my Aldrich's sound and feel really nice in everything I've tried them in. The Koko works so well with this head!! When I plugged in and turned it up, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face!!

I looked all over the internet for a cover of this and could only find one Japanese one. Thank God for "Transcribe" to slow things down for me.

Thanks Tweed!

I love watching your videos Mark..
You make it look so easy...

Love the tone too.
It looks like you're playing in g major, but it's g# because you tuned down a half step right??
Also your comment about fifths refers to circle of fifths right??
Sorry for the dumb questions

Not sure if its your micing/recording chain but wow, I really like this tone over the others that you have done with the axe-fx and maybe even the OD100. There is a rawness and juicyness that I just don't hear in the other clips.

That modded marshall tone sure is in the same league as all the others from cameron, golub, fortin IMHO.

I am tuned a 1/2 step down. When I said fifths I was speaking about the chords I played. I was playing the root,5th and octave of those chords A,E,B,F#and E again. Of course I was playing a half step down so I was referring to the positions not the actual current pitches of the chords played.

When I play 1/2 step down I always refer to the notes played as if I am playing in 440hz tuning :).

I am theory impaired lol.

That sounds amazing Mark! I remember the Egnater amp that you made a few years back too.

A lot of the modded Marshalls sound a bit fizzy to me, or that they're trying too much to be like a wall of Mesa/Boogie MarkIII amps or something. Yours has a rawness & gutsy nature that I really like.

Hehe your accent reminds me of Alex Lifeson! Especially when you say the word "passive". ;)
Speaking of which, could you please do a video of Tom Sawyer or another Rush song with the Egnater amp and some effects? I'd love to here that. Thanks mate.

I lived in Toronto for almost 9 years, Aurora to be exact, just up the road from Alex. when I returned to the States in 98, I had to un-learn my Canadian-esq accent, and choose to do so through a 12-step program that was advertised in the Star and ran by a militant group of de-frocked nuns at a secluded convent located just behind Studio 4 in Windsor, Studio 4's parking lot was always filled to capacity, but I don't think there was a lot of actual "recording" going on in there.

Anyway, sometimes, especially when am very tired, you might find that I still round out my A-B-C's by saying X-Y-ZED. What the hell is a "ZED" anyway? No one would tell me when I lived there. Mark?
